MOSCOW -- For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. Now he's found an eager audience: Russian state media.
"There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia." Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S.
Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

The Russian version of Alex Jones?
Dream on, Igor, Alaska would never submit to such a thing; and remember in this mythical scenario, Alaska would be nuclear armed.
Russia sucks.
LOL, and allow me to predict the end of the Soviet Union.
This Russkie's on a big-time acid trip.
Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war
So the gist of what he’s saying is the U.S. has a lot of different types of people, all of whom can do whatever they want, and that’s bad.
Gee, if only there were a system where everyone was the same and there were people in charge who knew what was best for the population. Then everything would be just peachy...
LOL? They'll have to nuke the entire state. We will not give up Alaska. Do you hear me Russia? From my vaporized atoms.
Don’t forget Alaska has F-22s.
“Now he’s found an eager audience: Russian state media.”
...and the NYT is trading low enough for them to buy it outright!
Yeah we’re going to collapse because they need to do allot of business with us . Oh good luck taking my house ;)
Even our State Department pinkos should be able to out-think this guy's students.
And anti-missile defense systems.
Oh, the way he breaks up the country makes no sense whatsoever, first he gives California and the other coastal states to China, WTF? I see no plausible scenario for that to happen. Then he splits the Southern states in half, which is again nonsense, that block of states would obviously act as a unit. Then he takes the block of midwestern states and puts them as part of or under the influence of Canada - I know hes only an academic, but doesnt he realize that that particular subset of states has more people than the entirety of Canada?
Comrade Professor, the first step is admitting you have a problem.
That number looks higher than our entire number of deaths in this country, and their number is two addictions.
LOL! I know. As if Canada would emerge unscathed from major events here. In a bad scenario, every province would be jockeying for position with certain states.
In a total USA collapse, Maine will stick with New Brunswick, the Dakotas with Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Washington with British Columbia...
It will be about regions with similar economies.
Only someone isolated in a university, and/or spoon-fed Soviet statist propaganda all his life, and/or beholden to the party apparatus, could think of this.
Anyway, the U.S. has been split from the outset into 50 separate states. Giving them greater autonomy is in the country’s best interest, and in the spirit of the original union.
“Dont forget Alaska has F-22s.”
And don’t forget Alaska has Sarah Palin. And she hunts moose.
I think Alaska will revert to Russia about the same time Moscow becomes a glassy desert, subsequently to be overrun with Muslims and Chinese from the south.
