PHILADELPHIA – Relatives of those who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 want the Bush Administration to seize the land needed for a memorial where the plane crashed in Shanksville, Pa., in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Families of Flight 93 sent a letter earlier this month asking President George W. Bush to empower the Secretary of the Interior to take the land in dispute from a homeowner who had been in negotiations with the National Parks Service, said Patrick White, vice president of the families' organization. The group says ground must be broken early next year in time for a memorial to be build for the 10th anniversary of the crash in 2011.

With Govt. spreading billions around like hot donuts, I don’t see why this land owner shouldn’t be properly compensated. I agree with building the memorial.

So a memorial is a compelling public necessity now?

A Dual Purpose Memorial.

One tribute to the deceased Flight 93 Victims

One tribute to the deceased Right to Own Property

Federal seizure of the land is just WRONG !! If the landowner isn’t inclined to donate or sell the land that is his perogative.

I hope terrorists never hijack a plane and crash it on my property. Apparently my land could no longer belong to me...

I’m all for seizing the land for a memorial.

In downtown Teheran.

yah.. I think the best memorial for them would be a nice, shiny glass bowl, with a 10 miles radius in Tehran. yup.

Actually, to be fair, they should grab some land in Saudi Arabia and build a memorial.

What inexcusable wretches. The person whose property became the target of the crash had nothing to do with it. There is no justification for seizing the private property. If these people want a memorial, they can damn well make a suitable monetary offer to purchase the land from the land owner. If not, they can just piss off.

If this is for the loathsome “crescent of embrace” memorial, than I definitely hope the land owner prevails. The proposed “memorial” is a disgrace and an abomination. I wouldn’t want to see private property taken for any but the most dire of emergencies in any case.

Yeah, squashed property rights will make it all better.

The government is threatening to seize 275 acres of privately owned land. The whole memorial will take up 2200 acres.

1 square mile = 640 acres.

The Vietnam Memorial is 75 yards long...

Why on earth do these people need to use so much land? Is it just because they’re stealing it from somebody else?

Just use a couple of million of the 750 billion "bailout" fund.

Its chump change in comparison...probably could dig it out of the cracks of Paulsen's couch.....

It just points out that even people like the "93 Families" don't give a rat's ass about private property rights.....

..Pay the landowners for the land....
