well Islam does recognize Christ, but only as a prophet, just not as the messiah.

Actually, they do recognize Him as Messiah. It’s just that their job description for Messiah does not include death on a cross to pay for the world’s sins or being Son of God...

well Islam does recognize Christ, but only as a prophet, just not as the messiah.

Does that imply that they believe:

  1. that Jesus was the son of God, or
  2. that writings about Jesus' words should be considered meaningless, or
  3. The writings that state that Jesus called himself the son of God are in error, but writings about him should otherwise be considered meaningful, or
  4. Jesus did call himself the son of God, even though he wasn't, but that doesn't preclude him from otherwise being a good person with meaningful things to say?
The first interpretation is the Christian one, and the second is decidedly anti-Christian. If one doesn't believe either of those, I would think one would have to believe one of the other two; frankly, I can't see how the latter viewpoints would make much sense.
