At least three people were injured this afternoon by a residential explosion on Paiute Way between Kachina and Grayson ways, officials said.

The victims suffered third-degree burns, police said. There were no reports of fatalities. One firefighter was injured, perhaps overcome by fumes. The blast happened about 1:40 p.m. and involved a few houses, officials said. Firefighters at the scene said one house was destroyed by the blast and several houses nearby were damaged.

John Turner, who lives on Paiute Way, said he was in his duplex and the blast shook his home from blocks away. He said he was not hurt. Turner said he saw two Pacific Gas & Electric trucks on Paiute Way, just before the blast. A PG&E spokesman is seeking more information. Neighbors near the blast told The Bee said they had heard that a Pacific Gas & Electric worker was on the scene checking out a report of a gas leak before the blast. Fire and emergency personnel swarmed into the scene from across the area. houses were involved in the explosion or if were hit by debris or caught fire from the blast, said Sacramento County sheriff's Capt. Scott Jones.

About 1:35 this afternoon I was jolted by a loud bang/thump, sounding almost like sack of cement dropped on my roof. Fire and other emergency services are responding to a building that exploded about four miles from my location.

CHP web page states that three house were destroyed. Multiple third degree burn victims. The explosion occurred during evacuation of several houses due to a natural gas leak. Evacuations an hour later are still being conducted. Local paper Sacbee.com someone claims five fatalities but I can't confirm that.

A house in my daughter neighborhood had a gas leak in the line to the gas dryer and one day the owners came home, opened the frond door, turned on the light and KaBoom. It blew them into the yard and the walls blew out and the roof dropped squarely on the slab. A new house was built on the slab within a year...

Just heard a report on KFBK from one of their staff on the scene. He said the structure was “basically vaporized”. I’ll be happy and surprised if there are no fatalities.

The same thing happened to some people I knew years ago. Four people killed and the concrete block house turned to rubble. It was a gas space heater in that case.

I do not like gas. My home is all electric.

What a mess.

I hope the reports of injuries were premature and it turns out that any injuries are only minor ones. Tough way to start Christmas holiday.

When I saw the live video from KCRA-TV's LiveCopter 3 I literally dropped my jaw in amazement--there was essentially nothing left of the house.

Interesting report (video) about one particular house here in the Houston area that blew up (the woman in the house survived), and how it may be related to a gas line compression fitting failure.

I think I saw a clip on local news but I wasn't paying attention. Do you have a link to video or photos. It looked like a apartment complex?
