Paterson would be a fool to fall for Uncle Ted’s promises of pork largesse that he will unable to deliver once he is dead (most likely within 10-14 months). The smart play for Paterson is to appoint Andrew Cuomo, thus removing from the stage his only significant rival for election. Speaking of "missing the Big Picture," I think she wants to give Uncle Teddy the gift of another Kennedy in the Senate before he passes.This is about sustaining the Kennedy legacy in the Senate. Swearing in Caroline while Uncle Ted is still in the Senate will be a spectacle for Democrats like nothing we've seen before. When Ted finally passes, Senator Caroline will preside over a Senate memorial that will put the Wellstone memorial to shame.
