Taliban blow up lorry carrying Christmas turkeys for British troops

Army chiefs have flown out a special consignment of Christmas turkeys to replace the ones destroyed when Taliban insurgents attacked a lorry packed with the birds bound for British troops....

The frozen birds were completely destroyed....en route from Pakistan to Camp Bastion.

The consignment of turkey roll breasts weighing 325kg was intended for soldiers stationed at Britain's main base in Helmand Province,...where...3,000 personnel will spend the festive season.

Dinner will be served: Replacement turkeys have been flown in...

Regimental Catering Warrant Officer Nick Townley, who is in charge of organising Christmas dinner for British troops in Afghanistan, said: 'Unfortunately one of our Christmas wagons got taken out so a lot of turkeys had to be flown in especially.'...

Gordon Brown addresses troops at Camp Bastion in Helmand
Province on Saturday. Up to 3,000 troops at the base will be
served Christmas lunch

On Christmas Day soldiers at the base will be able to tuck into the replacement turkey rolls as well as 135kg of roast pork, 424kg of gammon and 67.5kg of beef, topped off with 200 jars of cranberry sauce. Brussels sprouts will not be left off the menu - chefs will be preparing 62 boxes weighing a total of 148.8kg. There will also be 300kg of roast potatoes and 120kg of carrots.

And there will be 222 Christmas puddings, 37 Christmas cakes, and one mince pie and one After Eight mint each.

...But there will be no brandy for the Christmas sauce, with Camp Bastion a dry area. 'It wouldn't have made it in there anyway,' WO Townley joked.

Maybe it's the yankee in me but that's kind of an anemic looking bird.

They were obviously targeting the pork and gammon, and hit the turkey by mistake.

I don’t know why they don’t just put ONE pork sausage in with every shipment of anything over there. Cheap and effective.

Also destroyed in the attack was a “surprise” shipment of Pork products (i.e. Bacon, Pork Chops) for the British Troops.

I would have to loved to add that to the news release just to see the look on the Islamic Terrorists faces..hehe

Okay they don't like turkeys, send a lorry of hams to them. They would not dare blow that up and contaminate the landscape with bits of ham all over the neighborhood.

LOL...list the lory’s contents as turkeys, chickens, etc, but fill it with Ham...Oh, if we FReepers were in charge...what fun it would be. But then we’re not PC politicians. I’d even send a load of bacon for breakfast.
