There’s no “change” when it comes to politics as usual in The Empire State, in fact the Emperor’s latest edict is not being well-received.

Gov. Paterson’s proposed $121 billion budget hits New Yorkers in their iPods - and nickels-and-dimes them in lots of other places, too. Trying to close a $15.4 billion budget gap, Paterson called for 88 new fees and a host of other taxes, including an “iPod tax” that taxes the sale of downloaded music and other “digitally delivered entertainment services.”

“We’re going to have to take some extreme measures,” Paterson said Tuesday after unveiling the slash-and-burn budget.

How about some cuts in wasteful or redundant programs, Governor? Paterson had

This idiot Governor should be cutting 20% of the states workforce, and how about a tax on all the state employee pensions? Pattersons pension amounts to $10,000+ a month. New Yorkers have had enough! It's time for another Boston Tea Party!

NYers can not be taxed enough. Keep piling on the taxes and keep electing more democrats.
Just like MA...

California’s theory is to “Tax first and never cut later.”

New Yorkers have had enough!

There is no evidence whatsoever that the good comrades here in the PRNY have had anywhere near enough given how much they continue to strongly support Her Heinous, Chuckie Cheese Schumer and Governor Magoo, and how they're fine with having either Caroline Kennedy or Andrew Cuomo replace Her Heinous.

"This idiot Governor should be cutting 20% of the states workforce, and how about a tax on all the state employee pensions?"

We already paid State taxes on the wages we were required to "donate" to our pension fund. Sorry, but I refuse to pay double taxes on my own money.

This is never going to end until a state or major city government defaults on its pension obligations and/or its bond payments. It might happen sooner than people think.

This is the same as the Obama plan...Raise welfare benefits, add a fee (tax) to everything we touch.

Remember, Obama only promised not to raise INCOME taxes...in fact, he said 95% of us would get a break.

He'll blame everything on Bush...forget about Barney and the Dems and their halos.

That’s actually a very revealing graphic - and not in a good way. When Pataki beat Cuomo back in 1994 by a very narrow margin, I believe Pataki won all but five or six counties in the state.

Oddly enough, I think New York State has a reputation for running a very solid pension fund compared to most states. For all its flaws, the state does some serious oversight of a lot of things.

Ask anyone in the insurance business which state insurance commissioner's office has the toughest regulations and the best reputation for ensuring that insurance companies are on solid financial ground, and I bet most of them will say, "New York" without hesitation.
