I noticed the slow security reaction as well. Bush’s agent was sitting away from the podium and waited until the second shoe was thrown before he jumped into the picture at which time you can hear Bush say, “I’m alright” Its a good thing it was only a pair of shoes.
A ceramic/plastic hand grenade could have been brought in as easily as shoes.
