Republican gets elected to Rent Control Board in Santa Monica.

Property owner Robert Kronovet is celebrating a late campaign victory after scoring a come-from-behind win in a tight [Santa Monica] Rent Control Board race. . . .

The Republican and property manager becomes the first candidate to win a seat on the Rent Control Board without the political backing of Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights, an influential organization whose endorsees won every other race in the election. “We think we’re going to be able to work and reshape the Rent Control Board,” Kronovet, 51, said. “It’s going to be wonderful for this city to see a higher functioning Rent Control Board.” Early returns on Election Day showed Kronovet holding steady at second place, gradually losing the lead over Braun as the night progressed. By the morning, results showed incumbent Joel Koury with a commanding first place lead, followed by Braun and Kronovet for the two available seats on the board. But as the weeks went by and the votes were counted, Kronovet began closing the gap. The final tally showed Kronovet with a 62-vote advantage, or 28.7 percent as opposed to Braun’s 28.58. “His lead was diminishing every time more votes were counted and we got closer and closer until a week ago when we passed him by about eight votes,” Kronovet said.

A Republican (who is also a landlord and property manager) has won a seat on the Rent Control Board in Santa Monica, CA, home of Henry Waxman. I find it amazing that this happened in The People's Republic of Santa Monica, and that it was a vote for the Rent Control Board, which epitomizes the government-knows-best world-view that dominates the place.

He has won. And will likely be ignored and marginalized. Yippie.

You know, Republican doesn’t really mean what it used to. Especially in California.

Rent control is typical of what liberals do.

If you have a constitution frustrating your ambitions, you change it but not by the prescribed methods set down in the Constitution, you enlist activist liberal judges change the constitution to your liking.

If you think the demographic landscape inhibits your chances of winning elections, you change that landscape by resorting to illegal immigration. You engage in electoral fraud including voter fraud and fraud in registration.

If you covet your neighbor's property you do not acquire it the old-fashioned way by buying it you enlist the government to, in effect, assign part of your neighbors ownership rights to you by passing an ordinance called rent control which deprives your neighbor of the free use of his property and gives you certain rights over his property like the right to occupy it at sub market prices for an infinity in time. For a fuller explanation see Charles Rangel.

Republican doesn’t really mean what it used to mean, especially in all of the “blue states” as well as in most cities that have any elected Republicans still in them.

Georgia, Lousiana, now Santa Monica. Are we seeing the beginnings of a repeat of 1994 in 2010?

Why is there a ‘rent control board’ in the first place?

Since the November 4 election, Republicans have won every significant election. I think there is some buyer’s remorse out there.

That IS amazing, considering Santa Monica’s history. I have to wonder what issues brought this about.

What kind of Republican would even think about serving on something so hideous in concept as a rent control board?
