Palin's church damaged in suspicious fire
Fort Mills Times ^ | December 13, 2008 | RACHEL D'ORO

Posted on 12/13/2008 1:47:55 PM PST by abb

Gov. Sarah Palin's home church has been badly damaged in a suspicious fire.

Larry Kroon, pastor of the Wasilla Bible Church, estimates damages at more than $1 million to the church.

Kroon declined to say if the blaze was politically based or directed at Palin, the failed Republican vice presidential candidate.

Kroon says the fire broke out Friday night while a small group of women were working on crafts. They were alerted to the blaze by a fire alarm.

Kroon says he was called and by the time he got to the church, smoke was pouring out of the building. Sprinklers kept the fire from spreading beyond offices and classrooms.

Authorities are not immediately commenting, but Kroon says he's been told the fire is being investigated as a crime.

It’s OK...the lavender mafia can attack Mormons for supporting prop 8 and the MSM and assorted politicians will be silent. Burn a church? No big deal. It’s open season on people of faith.

Oh, my. The media spent a lot of time spewing hate speech about this church, and now I think we see the result.

Bad enough in itself, but possibly a portent of what we can expect under Obama’s rule.

In a written statement McAllister said Palin, “told an assistant pastor that she apologizes if the incident is in any way connected to the undeserved negative attention the church has received since she became a vice presidential candidate on Aug. 29. Whatever the motives of the arsonist, the governor has faith in the scriptural passage that what was intended for evil will in some way be used for good.”

[The pastor] was particularly disturbed someone would set the fire while people were inside. There were about a half dozen women inside doing crafts when the fire broke out, he said. He said he had talked to fire officials, but didn’t know of any specific leads.

“The possibilities are so wide and variable,” he said. “Someone intentionally did it, but we don’t know who and why.”

What sick loons would do this? Unbelievable.

I pray this had nothing to do with Governor Palin. I'm sure Alaskan law enforcement will get to the bottom of this situation. And Alaskan justice will prevail.

But.... remember, the Church of Jesus Christ is the fellowship of all believers and, as our Lord proclaimed, it is NOT of this world. I'm trying to remember the words of the hymn where...steeples are burning. The point of the hymn is that the Church has suffered incredible repression and church buildings have been destroyed for 2,000 years. The Church, however, is stronger than ever.

Prayers to this congregation, especially during the Christmas season.

Ah yes the failed VP. Lets do an internet search to see how many times Mondale, John Edwards or even Jack Kemp were referred to as "failed VP candidate". The smear job continues.

As for the fire we know that all church fires are set by racist white people who probably vote republican (sarcasm)

I pray this had nothing to do with Governor Palin.

That church was all over the national news media. It became the poster child for "anti-gay Christian bigotry" on leftwing websites. It might not have had anything to do with the Governor per se, but it was certainly politically motivated.

The Governor is such a class act. To go there and to apologize to the pastor if the fire was in any way a result of her notoriety is just a kind and decent thing to do. She could easily have distanced herself from the church for the very reason that it has become such a poster child for leftwing loons.

God bless her and the people of that church.

It couldn't have been someone inside. The ladies doing the crafts were not where the fire started.

The police wouldn't be investigating it if it weren't suspicious.

Of course, it could be some accident, I suppose. But it sounds like they've got more info to indicate that this was not the result of an accident. They probably aren't publishing all the details because it's an active investigation and they don't want to reveal their hand just yet.

Gore seems to be holding on to that title years after he failed:
November 2004 Guardian (UK)
October 2007 Telegraph (UK)
March 2007 MSNBC (via CNN)

Kerry was called a "failed candidate" closer to the time he failed (like Sarah Palin):
November 2004 Businessweek
November 2004 Guardian (UK)

I would never distance myself from a church that preaches the true gospel undiluted by the ideas of sinful men. If her church is faithful to scripture then it is the church militant and she should fell perfectly happy to me a member. I think it was a guy named Obama who left his church when things got hot. Not much conviction there. Just for politics.

That is just so horrible that someone would torch a house of God. No one tried burning down Trinity United church but they will attempt to burn down Wasilla Bible Church. Sick bastards, I hope they find them and burn them alive. And another thing, I am sick and tired of hearing “faied” and Palin in the same sentence. She did NOT fail, neither did McCain, they lost, not failed. That is a term that liberal democrats like to use to make someone feel bad. I hope that Sarah does not feel responsible for what happened at her church, that would make me feel so bad for her, for her to even think that her belonging to that church brought this on. Doesn’t make sense that they would do this now, considering Sarah has been in the public eye since August 28th, what took them so long if this is connected to her. Just sad, like Glenn Beck said yesterday on O’Reilly, we are indeed living in the 1860’s again, this is truly scary

I know she would never distance herself from that church. That was my point. A "politician" might do so because they didn't want to be associated with a "controversial" church. But Palin didn't. She's not even a member of the church. She just worships there as well as the other church in town and another one in Juneau. But the point is that she has resisted throwing them under the bus.

When she was interviewed by CBN, Palin said that she was troubled with how religion has been mocked during the campaign. And boy was she right. I'm a Catholic with many evangelical friends, and I was so disgusted with how vicious the ridicule of Palin's Christian background was.

I believe there will be a backlash against this ridicule. I don't think for a second that religion or social conservative values was the reason why McCain lost. It was the economy. It had nothing to do with Palin's religion or social conservatism. And the constant attacks on her religion and values will come back to haunt the Dems.

Can’t be a hate crime because Gov. Palin is a white woman. Now if she was black, or a black lesbian then it would be considered a hate crime. Funny, I thought all crime was based on hate?

“It’s great that Christ was born, but it really wouldn’t have worked out if He had not sacrificed Himself on the cross and risen. I’ll give you second holiest day. :) “

Just curious, Palladin - do you believe there was any chance that Christ would NOT have accepted the Will of the Father?

What do you think were the odds? 1 in 10, 1 in 1000, ...?

I mean if Jesus is truly human, He might have thought - “They’re going to crucify me and all I have is my faith. Besides, the Devil’s offer has some attractive points.”

I have wondered about this.
