“I still think this’ll be bigger than Watergate by the time Barack Obama is sworn in, if it isn’t already!”

I hope you are referring to the press coverage, because the actual crime underlying Watergate itself was penny ante.
The good news as I see it: Baraq is already on defense and we haven’t even started the game yet.
“the actual crime underlying Watergate was penny ante”
I am REALLY glad to hear someone else say that.
One of the most overblown “incidents” in American Political History, yet it ushered in a best selling book, a very high profile ( but pedestrian) movie, and the dubious careers of Woodward and Bernstein, who were both catapulted into legend status by “All The President’s Men”.
This was the story where the MSM really made it bones as
a tool of the Liberal Left.It was also the story where the “crime” was secondary to the prevarication, lies and coverup that followed, and the endlessly protracted investigation and “hearings”,as if that in itself proved just
how “important” the story was and how profoundly awful the break-in was. Watergate and Nixon became the new replacement for the Image of Political Evil that began with McCarthy , and as Senator Joe began to fade from the public mind, hurry up, let’s pillory Nixon. This dynamic dovertailed neatly with the “Loss of Innocence” conceit that everyone in the 60s dated from the assassination of JFK. Watergate and Nixon , as explained by the MSM,were used to formally introduce a Restoration of Innocence, played up to the hilt by Jimmeh Carter a few years later, who told us “he would never lie to us”.
The same crap gets played over and over and over, as they say, “like a broken record”.
