A Minnesota man recruited to join an Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group overseas may have been assassinated in Somalia by the very terrorist group he went there to help.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been investigating for several months at least 20 Somali-American men from the Minneapolis area who recently traveled to Somalia to train with the terrorist group al-Shabaab.

Abubakar Assadique is the mosque Hassan attended. Yesterday, there were prayers there for Hassan, but there are also allegations from Hassan’s family: they say the mosque was responsible for the 17-year-old’s decision to go to Somalia. They also say that his death may be connected to his decision to return to Minnesota.
The mosque denies any involvement in any of the young men’s decision to go to Somalia.
The FBI is investigating how the young men were recruited.
Hassan’s family says that investigation and Hassan’s desire to return to Minnesota may have played a role in his death.
The mosque says Sunday’s prayer service was for the community and the family. The Hassan family says they have no connection to the mosque.
I still want to know how this guy got a Somali passport...I would not be surprised if he isn’t tied into these Somali kids that have gone ‘jihad’.

Al Shabaab, which is seen as a proxy for al Qaeda, controls most of south Somalia and all but a few blocks of the capital Mogadishu. The official said Washington feared that it could destabilize the region and turn Somalia into a safe haven for foreign Islamists and “global terrorists.”
“We’ve shipped probably in the neighborhood of 40 tonnes worth of arms and munitions into Somalia,” the official said. “We remain concerned about the prospects of an al Shabaab victory, and we want to do as much as we can to help the TFG.”

The indictments have yet to be unsealed, but an announcement is expected in the next few weeks. One law enforcement source told FOX News the grand jury already has handed up indictments against at least three people.
Among those charged is a man from Minneapolis who went to war-torn Somalia and then, about four months ago, relocated to Seattle, according to the two sources and a leader in the Minneapolis Somali community. The man was then arrested in a Seattle airport and transferred to a jail in Minneapolis, where he is currently being detained, according to the law enforcement sources.”

Sweden: Visit by spiritual leader of al-Shabaab
Xasaan Xuseen, the spiritual leader of al Shabaab, is scheduled to speak at the Bellevue Mosque in Sweden. Is this part of al Shabaab’s recruitment of Somalis from the US, Candada, Britain and Scandinavia? Islam in Europe
The invitation of a man identified as the spiritual leader of al-Shabab by the Bellevue Mosque is disturbing many of Gothenburg’s Swedish-Somalis. He brainwashes youth, says Yoonis Hassan.
Yoonis Hassan works as a supervisor at the Gothenburg tram. He is one of several Swedish-Somalis of varying ages who gathered in central Gothenburg to commemorate Somalian independence. Some of them regularly visit the mosque in Bellevue.
The youth in the room speak carefully about Xasaan Xuseen, who was invited to speak in a conference starting at the mosque today (Thursday). The older people have more to say: Yoonis Hassan says that he’s calling Somalis home to wage war. People are concerned about this this, especially parents.
Most of those GP spoke with wanted to remain anonymous. Everybody is basically convinced that Xasaan Xuseen came to Gothenburg for two reasons: to collect money for al-Shabaab and recruit youth for the group’s activities.
“He has supporters in Sweden,” says Yoonis Hassan.

he mother of a 20-year-old Somali man missing from Minneapolis says her son has been killed in Somalia. Abayte Ahmed (ah-BYE’-tee ah-med) said Sunday through an interpreter that she and her husband identified their son, Jamal Bana (BAH’-nuh), in a photo showing a dead body in Somalia. Bana’s father saw the photo Saturday while viewing online news.
Somali activists believe more than a dozen young men have gone missing from the Minneapolis area during the last couple years—recruited, they say, by radical elements in Somalia.
Bana disappeared in November. Ahmed says after seeing the photo, she and her husband spoke by phone to someone in Somalia and have no doubts their son was killed. She wouldn’t say with whom they spoke.

A third Minneapolis Somali man has been killed in his homeland, community leaders said Saturday, his family having learned his fate by stumbling onto a website that contained photos of his bloody corpse.
While the body was identified only as that of a “foreign jihadist” or “fighter,” a closeup of the face left Jamal Bana’s mother with no doubt. The young man had been shot through the temple.
FBI officials said Saturday they could not confirm the news.
Abdirizak Bihi, a community activist who visited with Bana’s mother at her south Minneapolis home Saturday, said that Bana’s family learned of his death early Saturday while searching the web for news on the fighting in Mogadishu.
“They kept scanning the website for Somali news and there it was,” he said. “What made it worse is that the mom saw the dead body.”

For the second time in two days, a Somali man from Minneapolis has been reported killed in his war-torn homeland, a relative confirmed Sunday.
Zakaria Maruf, 30, who is believed to have been among the first wave of young Somali men to leave Minnesota for Somalia over the past two years, was killed Saturday in Mogadishu, the relative said.
Maruf is the fourth Somali man from the Twin Cities to have died in Somalia since October.
The relative said she did not know how Maruf was killed, adding that she learned of his death in a phone conversation with his wife.
On Saturday, the family of Jamal Bana, 20, of Minneapolis, learned that he had been killed in Somalia after seeing a photograph of his body on a Somali news website. Bana had been shot in the head

But the manner of the 26-year-old Minneapolis man’s death has put him at the center of one of the most far-reaching U.S. counterterrorism investigations since 9/11.
Nobody knows for sure why Ahmed left Minnesota in late 2007, or how he wound up obliterated in a bomb crater in Somalia a year later. Did the once passive teenager who came of age at Roosevelt High School shooting hoops, wearing hip-hop fashions and hanging out at the Mall of America volunteer for Al-Shabaab, an affiliate of Al-Qaida? Did his self-described transformation into a “God man’’ lead him to return to fight in his homeland’s civil war, or become a recruit for jihad? Most frightening, was he or any other Somali ever a candidate to return home and strike within the United States?

According to the sparsely worded indictment, Ahmed boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 56 from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, Netherlands, with a final destination of Somalia.
The indictment contained no more details of their alleged conspiracy.
During his initial appearance, Ahmed told the judge that he worked as a part-time security guard, making $800 a month, and lives with his mother in Brooklyn Park. He was arrested on his way to work Saturday and appeared in court wearing his black security guard uniform.
He told the judge he owns no property, no car and pays rent to his mother. The judge ruled that he qualified for a federal public defender.”

MINNEAPOLIS — Two men are accused of supporting terrorism in a grand jury indictment unsealed Monday, the first charges in an investigation into the disappearances of several young Somali men who activists believe were recruited from the Minneapolis area by radical elements in Somalia.
At least one of the men, Salah Osman Ahmed, traveled to Somalia to fight with Islamic militants, according to the indictment returned Feb. 19 but not unsealed until Monday. Ahmed and Abdifatah Yusuf Isse both are charged with providing material support to terrorists and conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim and injure. Ahmed also is charged with lying to investigators.”
