South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said Tuesday he wants the state's corporate income tax eliminated and would pay for that by eliminating some of the breaks companies get for moving to the state or expanding their operations here.

I think Mark will be our candidate in 2112. We need a governor. Sarah may well be there instead, but Sanford seems to be doing the right things to gain national favor.

2112?!?! I sincerely hope that's a typo, and we don't end up with 104 years of Obama.

This would be a start in the right direction. While they are at it; lower taxes for everyone.

Sanford laughed when Sarah’s name was brought up after he purposely omited her name when mentioning GOP governors on H&C. So my first take is that he is a jealous jerk. But, I could be wrong.

I know this is going to draw fire, but we need to find conservatives who are not Southern WASP males (e.g. Palin, Jindal, Cantor, Ryan) to run for Prez and other national positions. I know that it’s not fair, but continuing to ‘whistle Dixie’ will give us an EC lock any more any way (See VA, NC, FL).

I saw the same interview and he went way down the list for me after his comments... I agree, we have to move out of the south with the GOP and we have to find a way to make some intros into the inner cities of this country, half our population is located in these areas.

One problem will be that there are so few true conservative leaders outside of the South, so your available pool is quite small. A bigger problem is that the nation has increasingly moved to the left and that is likely to continue. The sex or nationality of a candidate will provide insignificant difference to a conservative candidate in a general election.

Conservatives would do better to nominate a highly intelligent, articulate, inspiring and experienced candidate. Unfortunately, I do not see any conservative will all those credentials at the moment.

Sanford has been on CNBC twice recently and I was greatly impressed. I wish he were my governor.

Like McCain?

You better be glad there ARE plenty of Southern WASP males or this country would have gone socialist years ago.

I know that it’s not fair, but continuing to ‘whistle Dixie’ will give us an EC lock any more any way (See VA, NC, FL).

This last election was total travesty and you know it.

Obama won this election because people voted based on his skin color, the media's total allegiance to him, the effective cover up of Obama's associations and past and a weak Republican candidate.

If you want a real conservative in the White House you better look to the South and not be so PC as to be concerned about the color of his skin or ethnicity.

I don't know about the other two but the VA governor is NOT a Southerner!

Why, and to who are you refering? The last thing I'd want is a Northerner or someone from the West. Now Alaska I'll go for! I don't believe it is the South that is losing the elections.

“(See VA, NC, FL)

I was referring to how those states went for 0bama.

I fully realize that Southern WASP males have been carrying a lot of the load for conservatives. But, we need to be more than a regional party. We need to pay special attention to the Mountain West, which will be picking up EC votes after the next Census. “Cowboy conservatism” is different and more libertarian than Southern conservatism and we must find ways and candidates to harmonize the two without compromising major principles.
