The Left’s Delusional Fantasies About Obama
Pajamas Media ^ | December 06, 2008 | Ron Radosh

Melanie Phillips is a writer whose yeoman work in defense of Israel and whose critique of radical Islam and its threat to the West is second to none. Her book Londonistan is a clarion call for us to wake up and to ignore the threat of radical Islam at our own peril.

I had the pleasure to finally meet her a few weeks ago, and to have the chance to engage in a brief conversation. As much as I admire her I have profound disagreements with her column today in the British Spectator. She came across a blog written by former members of the extremist wing of the 1960’s Students for a Democratic Society, including members of the Weathermen and the Weather Underground.

The counterintuitive belief by liberals that the next president will govern from the far left is belied by his actions.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” ~~Marcus Tullius Cicero 106-43 BC

What’s old is new, or “around the corner we shall meet the past.”

Naturally, Obama can’t surround himself with the likes of Ayers if he wants to be effective as a traitor.

The comments on that link are for the most part whack. The one about capitalism... whack. But, this one takes the cake:

BRING IT ON FAR LEFT!!!! AMEN!
BRING IT ON! A NEW DAY IS DAWNING!!!
I HAVE A NEWS FLASH! LISTEN UP! REAGANITES, BUSH, FAR RIGHT WINGERS and NECONS: THE RUPTURE IS NOT IN THE CARDS, AND JESUS IS NOT COMING, AND THE END OF THE WORLD IS NOT NEAR; HOWEVER, OBAMA IS NEAR! A NEW DAY IS DAWNING! THE FORCE WILL BE WITH OBAMA AND THE FAR RIGHT! SO BE IT!

I assume rupture = rapture--- although I think it's safe to say that person probably was on the verge of a rupture. Another Obama messiah worshipper.

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

Abraham Lincoln, "Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois (January 27, 1838)

I've now read 'em all. And, I think each are correct. And between all three, the bottomline is at some level a recognition that the Obama Admin recognizes that should it be as leftward as the Clinton appointees and purpose were -- even they may be murdered by terrorist hands.

That albeit more "conservative" appointments than the far left would like, the smaller more "invisible" jobs will be held by far leftists. That's already happening. The question then is, will those in the visible positions be that adept in translating far left marxism into palatable utterances before the public. I'm not so sure that is going to happen. And because it means those in visible positions will have to perpetually live with a "forked tongue": They won't be able to fully trust those working for them, nor will they be fully able to trust public compliance.

Yes, it's going to be an interesting 4 years.

Logic-wise, where Melanie Phillips is correct: I point to California. San Francisco, in specific. Since the Moscone days, Bay Area-ites have learned less about facts and more about emotional- and subjective-based so-called "reasoning" and have routinely elected ideologic drones into positions of power and authority. California is fighting insolvency. And while the far left couldn't care less about the insolvency, thinking instead to snicker and demand a "bailout" from the Feds for the state (as was their point all along), those in neither political extreme have a fog of wonderment as to how CA got into this predicament in the first place.

The far right in CA, OTOH, appears to be living in a time warp in not comprehending how dire the situation is, and why certain tacts are necessary. Obama won this election. This extreme vote requires a rethinking on many matters and fronts, IMHO.

Although our country has done a more than admirable job of preventing more attacks on US soil over the past 8 years; I don't think anyone is surprised that in America, land of freedom, the war would take on the shape of ideology on our soil. It has. But, first things first: Prevent the sheer brutality of terrorism off our shores (by all means), and work even harder to make clear to those yet not awake, that we could all lose our freedoms of speech, assembly, the rule of law -- if the former is not actively upheld, that is, fighting the WOT.

Which means, IMHE, that conservatives need to fighting on the education, elucidation, information front; rather than working on "defense".

My two cents.

The fact that BO has filled his cabinet with Clintonoids says nothing about the way he will govern. The 3 or 4 thousand “sub-cabinet” and below jobs that he will fill will go to fully vetted leftist radicals. They will do the damage.

And when any issue gets down to its nub, and BO has to make a decision (”Call me if need me”) is there any doubt where his instincts lie?

Obama wants to avoid drama in the Senate confirmation hearings, so he picks relatively uncontroversial people who have already held office in a prior administration. You're right, the real damage will be done by the people who actually create regulations and perform enforcement actions.
