One of the as yet overlooked socio-economic problems we will face very shortly into the next year is the crisis in American higher education.
Right now.... students ... private colleges and universities across the country ... uncomfortable conversations with their parents and school Registrars over how they will pay their tuition bills. Banks are not making school loans any faster than they are making car loans.
Young Americans who [are].... citizens of our nation, are being asked to sacrifice their college careers and meekly step aside those who have slithered into our country can take their seats at our colleges and universities.
In direct defiance of a 1996 federal law requiring states giving in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, it must do the same for legal citizens from any other state, at least ten states are doing just that anyway.
They have voluntarily slammed the door in the face of our own next generation of leaders to coddle and support law breakers who are here to take from us whatever they can get, including a prestigious at a bargain rate.
The Associated Press recently reported that it found 3/4 of the 504 colleges it spoke to were handling sharp increases in requests for grant monies from incoming students. Many are seeking admission to public schools to continue their educations. In states from east top west they are being rejected because there are not enough available spots.
Eleven percent of these colleges had 50 or more students who have been unable to get private loans. More than half of these young people could not get a loan because they could not find a creditworthy co-signer; most likely a parent or guardian.
Forty six percent... stopping... college careers ....one third ... planning on paying ... tuition bills ... credit cards

Then it’s probably a good time to look at going to community colleges and seeking out private assistance. As for illegals, the only assistance they should receive is a one-way trip to other side of the border.
I’m still looking in the article for any evidence whatsoever that illegals are taking a large amount of college aid from others.
“Im still looking in the article for any evidence whatsoever that illegals are taking a large amount of college aid from others.”
The article is NOT talking about monetary aid exclusively. It is talking about the fact that colleges are violating a 1996 law that says if they give in state tuition to illegal aliens , they must also give it to anyone from another state.
Tangentially, they are talking about the fact that many American students are not able to afford out of state tuition because student loans are drying up thus American students are much more limited in where they can attend college than are illegal students.
The article is very poorly written.
OK, that makes it clearer, but I still don’t get this—
“... thus American students are much more limited in where they can attend college than are illegal students.”
I would think illegals would still have to claim a state of residence for tuition purposes. Is that not right?
“I would think illegals would still have to claim a state of residence for tuition purposes. Is that not right?”
Well they probably do claim a state as their home. But because they are illegal, they can get in-state tuition in many states (at least 10 according to the article), whereas an American citizen can ONLY get in state tuition in their state of residence.
Whats really bad about this (other than being blatantly discriminatory) is that the REASON that there is such a thing as in-state tuition is because residents of that state have paid taxes to support the schools there, so they should get a lower tuition.
The law passed in 1996 essentially said: “OK, go ahead and offer in-state tuition to your “favorite group”, but if you do that you must give in-state tuition to every American citizen who applies, regardless of what state they came from. That is the law they are ignoring.
I have NO doubt that you are correct. It is absolute madness.
My wife left California 17 years ago because of taxes and the cost of living. She’s never looked back.
We looked into Rice University in Houston (supposedly a good conservative school). My daughter was top of her class with a 35 on her ACT, 4.5 GPA ----- she was no sloucher for sure.
So when I reviewed Rice's scholarship opportunities, imagine my surprise when I didn't find a scholarship that would work for my daughter, but I did find a number of 100% scholarships for students from other countries !!!
ok fine ----- Rice was taken immediately off the "potential" list. Maybe it has changed since, I have no clue 'cuz we never looked back.
