MUMBAI, India (AP) - The only gunman captured after a 60-hour terrorist siege of Mumbai said he belonged to a Pakistani militant group with links to the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, a senior police officer said Sunday.
The gunman was one of 10 who paralyzed the city in an attack that killed at least 174 people and revealed the weakness of India's security apparatus. India's top law enforcement official resigned, bowing to growing criticism that the attackers appeared better trained, better coordinated and better armed than police.
The announcement blaming militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, threatened to escalate tensions between India and Pakistan. However, Indian officials have been cautious about accusing Pakistan's government of complicity.

They definitely were not ready.!
“The gunman was one of 10 who paralyzed the city in an attack that killed at least 174 people and revealed the weakness of India’s security apparatus.”
It also revealed what happens to people who are dumb enough to allow the government to take total responsibility for their safety. No one had a gun??? Cripes......
Everyone seems to have accepted “10” as the official number of attackers. But since there were ten targets, and they kept 50 thousand security people tied down for three days while slaughtering 200 people and inflicting a thousand casualties, I find that number to be doubtful. Sounds more like a cover-up than a real number.
More likely there were three times that number who have since faded into the woodwork. Or were captured and are being disappeared.
If they can tie these guys to LeT it is very damning for Pakistan. The ISI has used LeT against India in J&K for a long time.
The Pakistanis may be finding that the terrorists are hard to control once you create them.
Another article said there were 15 toothbrushes on the fishing boat they seized.
And another article mentioned a Chef trainee at the Taj who was part of the group...he was killed by his friends.
I think the Sat phones were tied in to the group in some way.
It is mind-bloggling that a city of 18 million had no SWAT type police.
A friend said he read somewhere that the police at the train station had no guns. Is that true?
Many people were massacred there by only two gunmen who could have been taken out by armed policemen. Unforgivable.
If they had any,...they were outgunned.
Bapu Thombre, assistant commissioner with the Mumbai railway police, said the police were armed mainly with batons or World War I-era rifles and spread out across the station.
There is a local beer store run by Indian immigrants up the road from me. They were robbed at knifepoint by some Katrina trash that have been given Section 8 vouchers by the county in revenge for creating cities in the area.
When I told the guy he should have shot the female knife wielder dead, he replied that he could not do that as he is against violence and it is against his religion. I stopped going.

Just as well...he won’t be around long anyway...when he dies, he’ll probly come back as a doormat...or an all day sucker...
For a country “on the front lines” with Pakistan across the border, it seems astonishing that some of India’s largest cities don’t have some kind of SWAT team in this age of terror.
India is a 2nd/3rd world country for a reason.
no SWAT team in this city of 18 million

a bit odd being as Bombay-Mumbai
is the financial capital of India
or so I heard.
Or are being quietly "interrogated."
In a sound proof room.
That's our best bet IMO.
