If all of that had been taxed at the border, it would have resembled normal trade.

It is unfortunate that we have erected barriers to that taxation and thus perpetuated the enormous profiteering as a result.

I would bet that the profit margins would eclipse those of "big oil" by a magnitude of 1,000% plus.
