General Motors plans to invest $1 billion in Brazil to avoid the kind of problems the U.S. automaker is facing in its home market, said the beleaguered car maker.

According to the president of GM Brazil-Mercosur, Jaime Ardila, the funding will come from the package of financial aid that the manufacturer will receive from the U.S. government and will be used to "complete the renovation of the line of products up to 2012."

Well, they should put THIS in their business plans....step one....MOVE OFFSHORE WITH ALL CONSTRUCTION JOBS. That would solve many problems they created for themselves....now who are the unions going to extort money from??

This may not be a bad idea. Why pay exorbitant union prices to build here when they can do it far cheaper elsewhere? The cars will be cheaper and they will sell more.

If we give money to the auto makers, it must be stated that the money stays here and nothing goes offshore for any reason.

Where do you think Ford cars will come from at our dealers when the unions drive them out of the US. Before they declare bankruptcy, they will spin off all international operations into an independent company, and just file on the US operations. In a year, all the Fords on the lot will be Rio or Sao Palo metal instead of Detroit metal.

Tax people to support Democrat union jobs.

And Republican elite, country club financiers and investors.

So, what's new under the sun?

American=Sucker.

While not GM, things in Detroit are desperate. Buy one piece of junk and get another one almost free ....

Car dealer: Buy 1 car, get 2nd for $1

An Oak Lawn car dealership has started a new and unusual promotion: Buy one 2008 Chrysler Pacifica and get a second car, a 2008 PT Cruiser, for $1.

Frank Mancari started the deal on Saturday as a way to get people calling, booking appointments and visiting his Oak Lawn car lot at a time when many car dealerships are struggling to draw in customers.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Mancari said today, with an enthusiasm only a car salesman can muster. "There's no secret: the industry is slow right now. We're trying to generate activity with a great deal."

It works like this: Mancari said he wants to move the 2008 Pacificas off his lot. Those in stock are priced at $37,000 to $40,000, he said. The vehicles are larger, SUV-style, family luxury cars, he said. The PT Cruiser is also new but has low-mileage, and would give the buyer a more economical vehicle too.

"It's a great deal," Mancari said. "These are two great cars."

Mancari had five 2008 Pacificas on his lot, 4630 95th St. in the southwest suburb, Monday afternoon. Once they are all sold, the offer ends.

The have stated that they just build a second plant in India and are going to invest in China. No bail out money for foreign countries. NO NO NO!

Actually if the investments in foreign countries are profitable it makes more sense to put the bailout money there than to invest it here where there is no chance of a profit.

The question though is where does the government get the authority to invest in companies? Is Nancy Pelosi or her good buddy, going to be the next chairman of GM?

Great! First they want to open a plant in Russia, now this. When are they coming out with the all new, retro Volga to compete with Fords Mustangs?

GM once built a fine product, now all they seem to tout is a glorified cell phone (OnStar)

They need to offshore their bailout!

We had a Kia dealership who did something like this a year ago. If it is for a Pacifica/PT, I would be tempted to take advantage of that. Keep the Pacifica, sell the PT and pay that towards the Pacifica’s note.

I believe that the GM Executives know that their survival depends on eventually not making any cars in a UAW Plant. They wont tell the UAW that and they wont tell the Congress that, but that is the strategic business plan they cant share in public. They are between a rock and a hard place if sales hit bottom in the next couple of months.

Let Brazil get extorted.

That's why I like the Japanese. They extort the Japanese taxpayer and we get great cars.

That is why, as conservatives, we should let Detroit go the way of....Detroit.

By the way, Jorge Bush and Congress have already given 25 billion to the unions and investors. This next 25 billion is a done deal. That's 50 billion to unions and investors.

Based on my cynical how much can you sodomize an American taxpayer until he gets a vague notion that he's not getting a back massage, I think the Unions/Investors/Management can squeeze another 100 billion on top of the already 50 billion that have been put to us.
