This line is rich: The company's view is that consumers won't buy cars from a bankrupt auto maker.

From where I sit, it doesn't appear as if consumers are buying cars from a solvent General Motors. And I say that sadly as the owner of an awesome 2008 HHR SS, and a previous 2004 Cadillac CTS

They do make some great vehicles, but the union goons need to be cut down to size.

I love that line, too.

Whether consumers will buy from a manufacturer going through Chapter 11 is questionable. But, what is certain is they will not buy from a defunct automaker that is producing no more autos, and Chapter 7 is the alternative to Chapter 11.

Personally, I would much rather buy an automobile from a automaker that was in Chapter 11 and expected to emerge from it, than from a floundering company like GM, with no plan in place, other than hoping to loot the taxpayers for enough cash to continue another 6 months or so.
