Insiders are telling me that end-of-year stats regarding DVD sales of 2008's major movie titles are looking like a disaster areas. The guesstimates are that even blockbuster titles like Iron Man and Hancock will be down 30%. Interesting that studios which earlier claimed their film biz was near-recession proof are now blaming the economy rather than new digital media delivery options.

TV viewers unhappy? Nah, just angry
I may one of the few who is spurning the blu-ray hype and just waiting for movies to be distributed digitally like music is already.
Where can I buy some cheap HD-DVDs?
There is nothing decent to rent anyway. I stopped going to the movie store altogether a couple of years ago. It is all propaganda and/or trash. Really. Hollywood hasn’t put out a really good movie in almost 8 years.
If TV news halfway tried to present honest reporting, I would be overjoyed to watch news in the evening. At this point, it is so biased, it is sickening. If I can figure that out, it has got to be really bad.
That’s because more and more major movie titles SUCK! Really, where’s the future in movies? $12 bucks a seat-FOR THIS!
I bought Iron Man.
I’ll not buy, or watch Hancock.
I’ll make a prediction, the hollywood lefties will blame the slowing economy on a previous admin.
Who wants to bet?
Hollow Wood, thine time has come. Suffer.
As digital expands and makes available on-demand viewing of more and more of the “good old stuff,” the newer stuff will fade even further.
Your tagline reminds me it’s about time to hunt up and watch “Telefon.” It is one of the movies which is as good as the book on which it was based.
Hancock was a blockbuster?
One movie I do want to get is An American Carol.
Why spend money on a DVD you might watch twice?
Something I noticed about Hancock. When it was released all the commercials stressed the comedic, anti-hero, anti-social, dirty drunkard theme. In the DVD commercials, ALL I see is standard superhero, superman, stand-up guy stuff. Wonder why.
I'm with you. I used to rent ~1 movie/month, but lately I haven't found anything worth renting. More often than not I end up walking out empty handed.

Why should I buy a DVD when I can rent it from my library for a dollar?
With HD TV driving my tv and others out of usable connection to the outside world, I predict a rise in Netflix business.
I intend to catch up on 35 years of movies I never went to.
