Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

I cannot believe the mods deleted my last post. Obviously they didn’t read the article or the article’s headline before doing so.

The Gingrich statement is an example of being taken out of context. I agree that more and more leaders will emerge, but he should know better than to dangle a statement regarding Sarah’s future. He should use more caution, especially if he is running for RNC chair.

Well, believe it, nimrod. It’s been posted like 20 times today. That, coupled with your silly idea to change the title, is what resulted in the previous post being deleted.

Well there you have it! If the rabble wants her, the elites will say no way! They didn't want Reagan either.

Yes, she appears to have the credentials and the charisma, but she has yet to set foot in one state for a primary. It took us two primaries to select President Reagan, to wait and see how Gov Palin may do against a field of competitors is not too much to ask.

I agree.......

she has energized us all but now we have to see how she reacts going back to the mundane duty of governing....

if she is seen by her fellow Alaskans as someone wanting national attention, instead of doing her elected duties, then they will not re-elect her....and I hate to say it, but she is not making friends among other Republican governors or so it seems....

I know that sounds harsh, but I WANT HER TO SUCCEED.....I just don't think what she is doing now is helping her cause....

I almost think that there are some trolls pushing so hard on her just to make her overextended and over exposed ......

remember the endearing qualities that made us all like her...I don't want those qualities left behind...

He is not running for RNC chair. This is consistent with Newt’s position regarding Palin. I suspect Newt fancies himself the leader and therefore tries to minimize Palin by comparing her to “20 other” governors.

You do recall two other mundane governors who later served as two-term presidents (Clinton and Bush).

Gingrich hates being outwitted by McCain.

Actually I did try the search function with keywords Gingrich Palin, nothing was there.

Also, I am disappointed with your removing my previous post. I’ve been posting here off/on for five years. This was the first time you deleted my post. Really with no justification.

The Mod deleted it because your title had the word “Irrelevant,” which is not in the title of this article.

I happen to think Newt’s right. Its far too early to be crowning anyone the GOP front runner for 2012.

Sarah Palin was a breath of fresh air for most conservatives and helped McCain get 5%-10% higher in the popular vote. But thanks to the media and the awful McCain campaign efforts in handling Palin, right now she’s damaged goods. She’ll have to make a strong appeal to moderates and Independents, if she wants to win over right leaning centrist voters.

I like Gingrich very much but I don’t think he’s going to be the candidate in 2012.

Gingrich's key qualifier is “de facto”. An incredible amount of developments will emerge over the next 1400 days. By no means was Gingrich ruling her out, he's being quite pragmatic.
