Arcuri maintains lead over Hanna (NY Congressional race)

Rep. Michael Arcuri, D-Utica, remained ahead Friday in his bid to win re-election in the 24th Congressional District as Otsego, Chenango and Broome counties' election boards finished counting absentee and other paper ballots.

Officials at several other boards of election in the 11-county district said they do not anticipate completing their counts until Monday or Tuesday.

Arcuri, 49, who is seeking a second term, was challenged this year by Republican Richard Hanna, 57, of Barneveld and Otsego.

Unofficial results in this race show Arcuri received 118,640 votes to Hanna's 112,244 on voting machines.

This was nearly the surprise of the Congressional races.

I am on the edge of Arcuri’s district - people who live a half mile away are in his district and I am in McHugh’s. It wasn’t a surprise to us that he did so poorly. The Utica Observer-Dispatch published several articles about Arcuri’s suspect property holdings and the state agencies he was leasing to which added to his filthy lucre.

He is very vulnerable in 2010. Except for Utica and part of the city of Rome, this is a red county.

We need to get Arcuri in 2010.

Yup, this race wasn’t considered “top-tier”. Party dropped the ball on Arcuri’s vulnerability. He beat a sleazy state senator in 06 and in 08 the Republican got the Independence party ballot line.

How many Republicans have left his district in the last decade?
