Rep. Maloney: Obama to resume funding of U.N. program implicated in forced abortions

Rep. Carolyn Maloney / President-elect Barack Obama

Washington DC, Nov 14, 2008 / 06:26 am (CNA).- Supporters of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are confident that President-elect Barack Obama will reverse the Bush administration’s 2002 decision to stop the $40 million it received in U.S. funding. The policy was instated because of UNFPA’s support for China’s one-child policy, which includes coercive abortion practices.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D – N.Y.) said the funding will be approved by the Democratic majority Congress. Her comments came while speaking Wednesday at a press conference at the National Press Club where the 2008 U.N. report on world population was released.

“You know the president will have to do nothing,” said Maloney. “He will just have to let the will of Congress go through. One of the changes is that UNFPA will be funded,” CNSNews.com reports.

The Bush administration in 2002 had stopped funding the organization, citing the Kemp-Kasten Amendment which prohibits funds from being available to organizations or programs determined to be supporting or participating in coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization programs.

In July of 2008, Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte announced that for the sixth year in a row, the government had determined that “UNFPA provides support for and participates in the management of the Chinese government’s program of coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization.”

Rep. Maloney reported that she discusses UNFPA funding controversies in her book “Rumors of Our Progress are Greatly Exaggerated.” She said the UNFPA was founded “with American leadership” and “was supported strongly by George Bush’s father.”

The new UN report, “Reaching Common Ground: Culture, Gender and Human Rights,” calls for “cultural sensitivity” to “mitigate and overcome cultural resistance to couples and individuals using modern contraception.” It claims to prepare for the empowerment of women with control over their fertility.

Nevertheless, Rep. Maloney claimed the U.S. will no longer “impose our own ideology” under the UNFPA funding changes.

She said Obama “has already said his administration will change the way we do business in Washington and that improving the role of women around the world is going to be one of his prominent priorities.

“I am thrilled with this report, and I am really thrilled at the new direction of our government,” Maloney said, according to CNSNews.com.

Democrats never pass up the chance to murder the innocent.

What a smarmy bunch they've become over the years.

Will the Dems also allow, without comment, the continuing mutilation of third world women by clitorectomies. I suppose cultural sensiivity will allow these as well.

One question for Ms Maloney who represents my old Manhattan nabe. What's cultural about a centralized govt forcing women to undergo abortions. If the abortions are forced, I would guess that the women don't want to have them, and that their refusal would be a valid expression of their cultural identity. But I guess some cultures are more equal than others. I know the godless left needs a secular sacrament to validate themselves. I just wish they hadn't chosen human sacrifice as their sacrament of choice.

YOUR tax dollars are going to be used to force women to kill their unborn babies.

1) supporting 0bama constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil

2) you have a moral obligation to reduce (legally) the amount of tax dollars they have available to use for this purpose

Democrats are evil. They vote for pro-abortion candidates. They have no morals. The legal murder of the most innocent human life, is their main core value. Thus, they think nothing of lesser crimes like voter fraud, re-instating the unFairness Doctrine, taxing productive persons to give money to free loaders...All their evil doings are OK to them, since they think abortion is no biggie!Liberalism is a mental disease of moral relativism. Try reasoning with one, it’s like talking to a brick wall.

Forcing them to have abortions? How can that be improving the role of women? Half the babies killed will be female and being forced into an abortion can't help anyone psychologically.

Also, membership in the United Nations constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil. If America were to withdraw from the UN,the UN would be in a world of hurt without us helping to prop it up.

This must be PHASE ONE of what DOUG KMIEC, the “Eminent Law Professor” and former Dean of The Catholic University Law School and Advisor and Spokesperson and Blah Blah Blah of “Catholics for Obama,” meant by Barack Hussein Obama’s “indirect” plan to limit the number of abortions.

Where is Archbishop Rummell when we need him?
