LEE COUNTY: Gun shop owners all over Lee County are reporting high sales since Barack Obama won the presidency a week ago.
Gun owners are known for their tough image. But now, some are first to admit they're a bit worried.
"They're scared. They're perfectly scared," said James Black, manager of Tactical Weapons in Fort Myers.
Black says sales have spiked.
"I'd say they've gone up 50-percent in sales just here alone," he said.
Some say they fear Obama and a Democratic-controlled Congress will try to restrict gun possession.
Obama has proposed restoring a ban on assault weapons, a ban first implemented in 1994 that has since expired.
"With the Second Amendment, the right for people to bear arms is not an absolute, which Obama has indicated in this campaign," said Dr. Peter Bergerson, a professor at Florida Gulf Coast University in Lee County.
Obama also touched on the issue in a speech four years ago.
"Unless you're seeing a lot of deer out there wearing bullet proof vests, there is no reason for many of the guns," Obama said.
Similar concerns shot up in 1993, when President Bill Clinton took office.
"There was a very similar uproar and dissatisfaction when President Clinton was going to take firearms away," Bergerson said.
Clinton implemented the Brady Law, requiring background checks on gun purchases and signed into law the original assault-weapon ban.
It's too early to determine what, if anything, the Obama Administration will do, but like his customers, James Black is scared.
"Obama is probably one of the most anti-gun officials in that office. Now, he's in line to stay. If he does get the weapons banned, what am I supposed to do, sell cars?" he said.
At least one sector of the economy is booming.
And you can bet dishonest gun dealers are sticking it to everyone they can.
I got some before the election and plan to get a few more and a couple of throw aways just in case
This is the problem with liberals, they look at a gun and it looks scary or "military" like and they assume it is super powerful and deadly. What they don't know is that a standard deer rifle has more killing power than most of the military derived rifles on the market. Nor do they understand that even the most powerful bullet requires proper shot placement to bring down a deer.
We also don't have to show a need for a gun as it is a right guaranteed to us.

The downturn started when amnesty failed. I know people don’t want to hear it but it’s true. The perfect economic brew of cheap labor and demand was broken never to return. And most importantly otherwise conservative at the national level catholics said adios when they saw the far right get nasty. I knew that would come back to bite in the butt.
I bet you would rather have a few more carefree mexicans around than Obama and what he portends. I suspect whats behind door 2, Obama, is a much greater threat. If you aren’t highly concerned, you ought to be. They plan to finish off the indoctrination of your kids. Forget your history/know your destiny. That’s the left’s motto.
The Second Amendment enables an armed citizenry to protect itself from the government not from deer.

You can’t beat a full-blown panderbear with a squishy moderate panderbear. Welfare is on the table, adn the ‘rats are offering the most freebies.
And it will be much worse in 2 years, when 20 million newly amnestied illegal aliens are given citizenship and vote solidly ‘rat for mas welfare freebies.
And it will be MUCH worse in ten years, when those 20 million bring in 60 million parientes under “family reunification.”

No, the problem with liberal marxist is the Second has nothing to do with hunting and everything to do with civilian defence of life, property and country.

For all the people standing in line at the gunshops and gunshows, there were less than fifteen people at the Republican Headquarters making phone calls and asking people to vote Republican.
I stopped by a small gun shop today. The owner mentioned that this had been his best week ever for sales. I tried to dicker a bit on a couple of used rifles but he wasn’t in a bargaining mood, which didn’t really surprise me.

Many of the military style rifles will have the waranty voided if you use hunting ammo in them. Many companies load up the hunting ammo to higher pressures.
