During a segment on Tuesdays Newsroom program, CNN anchor Rick Sanchez asked South Carolina Mark Sanford if the Republican needed to abandon its social conservative principles in order to be successful again: "Do you have to be anti-abortion, because that's a very important, big topic in the South..?" Sanchez later asked the Republican governor, as well as talk show host Neal Boortz, "Can you be a fiscal Republican and a social conservative Republican at the same time without making one side mad..?"
Sanchez had both Sanford and Boortz on to discuss the upcoming Republican Governors Association meeting in Florida. The CNN anchor first brought up a recent New York Times article, with its accompanying exaggerated map, about conclusions that the Democratic Party might draw from the recent election: "You know, as you look at this map and you start to look at the South, there was some suggestion in that New York Times article, for example, that maybe Democrats are going to get from this that you know what, they can win in the future without the South." Sanford replied, "I would just say, you know, Im going to leave the Democratic strategy up to the Democrats. But, you know -- and this is the whole point of the Republican governors meeting here come the end of this week -- is where do we go next? And I think that our problems as a party are much bigger than simply being progressive or coming up with the right strategy....It goes to the core of what is the brand about."

yeah we like babies
Let the GOP be whatever they want. Let’s join the Constitution Party where Individual right occur at conception.
“No, no, of course not. We are pro-abortion, but only for adult Democrats”.
No. It doesn’t have to be. But then again, it doesn’t have to be a major party either. Lose the social conservatives you destroy the party. Simple. If they become anything less than pro-life, then there will be a mass exodus. If that is what they want, fine. Go for it. Better we know it now and have time to recover in 2012.
The minute the pro-life plank leaves the R platform is the minute that the R party loses half its membership. It’s a dumb question. Would anyone ask “does the R party have to be in favor of the second amendment?”
Its about principle or its about nothing at all.
When GOP becomes a "brand" the GOP is dead and over. God protect us from politicians that don't know that.
Naaaaaaaaaaaah...
Just 100% Pro-Life......
Lets ask for higher taxes and shut down power plants too. Throw bestiality in there and we might pick up a few more voters.
Sheesh.
I think it is also stupid to kill your future
Unless the Constitution party replaces the GOP like the GOP replaced the Whigs, prepare yourself for 60 years of irrelevancy.
See the Libertarian Party for another example of that.
Many (in my imagination) are fiscal conservatives. They’ve been out of any meaningful positions of power for quite some time now. I need a drink before the tax goes up.
We believe that if you want to play the choice game then you should give the fetus a choice of whether it wants to live or die.
Excellent point. In 4 years, if we get conservative talk radio to join in, we could replace the dead elephant with the US Constitution. How do we get Mark Levin and other on board? I was at a scout camp and was blown away with all the scout leaders who vote Constitution Party. My homeschooling wife surprised me by saying she supports the Constitution Party.
We can do it. It will be a historic change, but a necessary change. Dump the Republican name. It has poor branding, but the US Constitution is one of the greatest brands on the planet!
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of interest.
Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
Does Rick Sanchez have to be an asshole?
Well, tell me, how many elected members of Congress does the CP have? How many Governors? Well then....
Answer: Yes. And for more reasons than just one. The left is out to destroy the traditional family structure which has always provided social stability in this country. Every single thing they do is geared toward achieving that goal.
The CP has been flailing uselessly for years. Now is the time to start over.
The Republican party was founded as the abolitionist party.
It must remain so.
Hey Rick, does the left have to be pro-death on children?
I think of myself as Pro-Life.
I’m for something not against something.
Might seem like a small distinction but it’s important to me.
I’d rather argue that life is precious than abortion evil.
When GOP becomes a "brand" the GOP is dead and over. God protect us from politicians that don't know that.
My take is that he's using the term brand in the sense of unifying/identifying principles rather than in the sense of a laundry detergent brand.
Do I care what Rick “Vehicular Manslaughter” Sanchez thinks?
Yes.
Any Republican who labels “Anti-Abortion” as “Controversial” is out as far as I am concerned.
Republicans who support abortion are fricking idiots. They'll never get the conservative vote and the lib voters will just vote for the Dem. That's why Giuliani completely crashed and burned in the primaries.
"Must you be so rigid in your call for the abolition of slavery? Is there not some agreement, equally reached, which may resolve the question without such animus?"
The Libertarian party has some really whacky ideas. They have some good ones, but the whacky ones make it impossible to join. I think many would agree.
In today’s environment, I just don’t see that it would be possible to overtake a major party. Which is why at the moment, I still believe that the best option is to restore the conservative base of the GOP.
In a word: YES
Hello they've only been in existence since 1992 when they were the U.S. Taxpayers Party. They're still relatively new. If any party been flailing uselessly it's the Libertarian Party.
http://falconparty.com/
ROFL. All the Falcon Party is doing is splintering the conservative base. There really is nothing wrong with the CP. They just need to tone down the religious stuff and be Reaganesque on national defense.
In fact, all 3 parties should merge under the Constitution Party name.
Uh, yeah! (Duh!)
Unless of course they want to kiss their donkeys goodbye...
Does Sanchez have a negative IQ or does he just relish the thought of killing kids?
Jesus said, “Let the little children come unto Me” presumably so that he could perform the miracle of “retroactive abortion.” And lo, He also laid hands upon many women to “heal” them of their pregnancies...
We are aborting ourselves out of existence as a viable society. Used to be we had 15 workers per retiree. After the abortion culture mindset took over - in which children are viewed as “burden” rather than “blessing” - we have just over 3 workers per retiree. And the number will soon be down to 2. Good bye, liberal social support structures.
Mind you, we’ll soon have socialized health care. And the massive cost overruns that plague EVERY government program will plague health care as well. And then it will dawn on our socialist “saviors” that most health care resources are “wasted” on the elderly. And then watch out, grandma and grandpa: because the generation that survived the abortion holocaust will come after you.
Abortion has destroyed our entire family structure. It has destroyed fatherhood. A man is compelled to stand idly by while his child is killed? That helps build “fatherly love”? Or a man is compelled to pay child support for 18 years because a woman subjectively decided to keep a child he may not want. Where’s HIS “reproductive freedom”?
Realize under the abortion mindset, a man doesn’t “father” a child, but merely a lump of non-human goo. Why can’t he walk away? He’s no more a “father” than a woman is a “mother.” Yet if a woman decides to keep a child - a decision which the man has NO right to influence - he is compelled one way or the other.
Men - who have no control and no power - have simply walked away and abandoned the role of father in huge numbers.
We’ve always had fatherlessness, but never like we have in this generation. But the culture of fatherlessness and the culture of abortion have occurred simultaneously. The one and the other are related, and you should be able to see why.
Fathers should have a duty to care for and support their children. And mothers should have a duty to love their children and allow them the fundamental right to LIVE.
Does the GOP have to be anti-slavery?
How many republicans were there before their were any republicans? We need to make a dramatic stand. Let’s dump the cocktail, whine and cheese, Rockerfeller republicans and restore our Constitution. It is something all true Americans can become excited with, but we need big names and a strong base to get it going. Please don’t put it down. We can do it in the spirit of our founders who took a chance in declaring independence.
Does the Democrat Party ‘have to be abortion supporters’?
To be frank, I ok with abortion. Why? It’s the only form of social engineering that actually works!
The democrat party is a loosely aligned coaltion of victims that could be easily splintered if anyone in the RNC had balls. Abortion is a big part of it. Take it off the table as a political issue and let the splintering begin.
I understand many here will vehemently disagree.
Yes, the core of Conservative philosophy is the freedom of the individual. When one has the live or death decision over another, then you have no other freedom. The Republican party was founded on an anti-slavery principle, I don’t see much difference, one person owning the life of another.
Does Rick Sanchez have to be a self-absorbed douchebag?
How many Congressional seats did the Republican Party hold in 1852?
L
The Constitution Party has a lot of housecleaning of truthers, isolationists, and other paranoid bircher types before most would ever even consider them.
This time around it seems the Fiscal Conservatives were the biggest group to stay home (mostly over the bailout.)
Some serious donors and a couple of high profile defections and we’d be in business. Conservatives are desperate for a new home.
