But since this is New York, someone will occupy these condos, whether buyers or renters. There is a market-clearing price, and it is still not low. Many people who would like to live in NY have been priced out.

Sell your New York property now, and buy 10 in the southwest. Live in one, rent out the others for now, and sell them gradually 5-10 years from now, and put the proceeds in portfolio investment. You will never need to work again. Or rub elbows with a sneering NY liberal, come to that.
