House GOP's No. 2 steps down
Sacramento Bee ^ | Friday, Nov. 07, 2008 | David Lightman

WASHINGTON – Rep. Roy Blunt, the House of Representatives' second-ranking Republican, stepped down from his leadership post Thursday as the House GOP moved quickly to reposition itself as more conservative, unified and eager to fight Democrats.

The Missouri congressman's resignation came a day after Rep. Adam Putnam, R-Fla., the House's third-ranking Republican, quit his leadership job. Likely to replace them are two combative favorites of die-hard conservatives: Virginia's Rep. Eric Cantor, expected to replace Blunt, and Indiana's Rep. Mike Pence, who would take Putnam's place.

Ohio Rep. John Boehner is expected to remain as the House minority leader, in charge of a Republican caucus that could lose as many as 26 seats – eight races remain undecided – in the 111th Congress.

House minorities usually have two roles. Their legislative task is difficult, because House rules make it difficult for them to offer alternatives without the majority's cooperation. The other is political, to provide a unified, consistent message in opposition to the majority.

Now all we need is for John Boner to step down. The Republicans are insane if they actually keep a "leader" who lost 20% of his caucus over two elections.

Mike Pence should be taking Boner's job, not Putnum's. Jeb Hensarling would then be Conference Chair.

Our founding fathers were geniuses. 43 Americans in the Senate united can derail Socialism by yapping about baseball until 4 am on C-Span.

DC is full of traffic circles to drive an invading army nuts, so is our system of Gubmint.

Socialism can’t spread here.

“Ohio Rep. John Boehner is expected to remain as the House minority leader,”

Let me get this straight.

The Republican Party gets creamed in the Presidential Election and in Congressional Races, AFTER it got a shot across the bows in the mid-terms, and the SECOND IN COMMAND in the Senate gets thrown under the bus while the GUY IN CHARGE during the catastrophe gets to keep his position????

That S.O.B. Boner.

THIS is why I have said - and CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN - the GOP is FINISHED - KAPUT. GONE.

Clinging to it makes as much as sense as would have been holding on to the anchor of the Titanic as it went down.

We need an elective alternative to the GOP to counter the Marxists in the Democrat Party.

Unless Republican Rank and File can effectuate the removal of this loser, all thinking conservatives should leave the sinking ship - NOW while there is still time to position a third party in time for 2012. THANK YOU JORGE EL SEGUNDO

Will we have 43 Americans in the Senate?

How many more seats did the Rats win?

Well if ever there were a time for a third party, now is the time.

An American party. Not about open borders. Not about sending our jobs to the cheapest bidder.

About AMERICA.

So how do we start? And how can we get Sarah Palin, Jindal and both Duncan Hunters on board?

I meant House, not Senate and Boner’s website is:

if you want to tell him what an @$$ he is - politely of course.

3 seats are still in play where the election is undecided. We only need 41 Americans named Phil E. Buster to stop Socialism.

What do you think of John Boner though?
I think he is largely responsible for the back to back landslide defeats the GOP experienced in the House.

Republicans seem to have had no message and no vision since Boner took over. John Boner, Mitch McConnell and Mike Duncan have all been practically invisible since each took their leadership posts. Come to think of it, President Bush has been in hiding for the past two years, too.

Compare that to Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. They have all made their presence known over the past 2 years.

We need Newt Gingrich as RNC chairman, Jim DeMint as Senate minority leader, and Mike Pence as House minority leader.

I’d also settle for Michael Steele as RNC chair, John Thune as Senate minority leader, and Anyone But Boner as House minority leader...

It’s amazing that even the minority wields power, all to prevent tyranny of the majority. It had to be Divine Providence, just as they believed.

Boehner is being challenged by Lungren. I’m up for sacking Boehner if for no other reason that he supported the bailout AND has employed Kevin Madden - so Pence(preferred) or Lungren is looking really good...

“and both Duncan Hunters on board?”

I forgot about the Hunters. Duncan Hunter is the greatest.

When you have a serious disorder, you fight it with a check-up and a check.

In this case, perhaps a LETTER and a check - as a campaign contribution to Jindal, Palin, the Hunters, and Pawlenty might work.

TELL THEM we have HAD IT with business as usual in the defunct Republican party. WE want people of courage and conviction to fight Obama and his fellow Marxists, not grinning sycophants like the guy in the Oval Office.

I actually wouldn’t mind it if the Republican Party would just die instead. Good riddance! It’s the possible death of conservatism that I’m most concerned about. For more than fifty years now and counting, both Republicans and conservatives continue to be profoundly clueless about what to do to actually win where I’m from, Massachusetts, and now I see “Massachusetts politics” as something that has just gone national, starting on January 20, 2009. I honestly don’t see conservatism making any kind of serious and successful political comeback for, at least, sixty years, if ever.

I nominate the Honorable Ted Poe of Texas as Minority leader! (Although Rep. John Culberson of Texas would suffice.)
