Ever since President elect Barack Obama announced in his acceptance speech Tuesday night that he would follow through on his promise to get his daughters a pooch, there has been much speculation (and anticipation) about what kind and from where.
In a previous post, one clever SFGate.com reader suggested a wrinkly shar pei named John and a pit bull named Sarah (wearing lipstick of course). Now that we as a nation have overcome racial barriers and chosen our first black President, why not usher in our first presidential pit bull? Maybe it's time we got over this prejudice as well?
According to an American Kennel Club survey of more than 42,000 people, the poodle came out on top. (Really? A poodle?)

Paula Fasseas, founder of PAWS Chicago, suggested Obama choose a shelter dog for his family.
“I envision a wonderful shelter dog — a mixed breed that’s hypoallergenic,” Fasseas said. “Not too big, not too little. Something nice for the girls to really play with.”

Why not a rat? Or perhaps a snake named Barack Jr. That would be fitting.
The choice is obvious:
A mixed breed with an unknown background.
It should definitely be a rescued baby. We have 4 and they make the most wonderful companions.
However, IF nobama keeps this promise, it will be the first he’s kept in his two years of campaigning. The only promise I expect him to keep is spreading our wealth!!!!
