U.S. Rep. Thelma Drake on Wednesday refused to concede victory to challenger Glenn Nye and said through a spokesman that she is waiting for the results of absentee ballots to be added to vote totals.
Nearly 27,000 absentee ballots in Virginia Beach need to be included in the final tally, said Anne Rinehart, the city's chief of absentee ballots. The counting was suspended Wednesday afternoon and will resume this morning.

Is this another sign VA is being lost to the bad guys? As I recall Drake won very narrowly the last time too. And with Rep. Virgil Goode either defeated or still locked in a dead heat, it is a very bad sign. Hard to believe a state that was pretty solidly conservative only 4 years ago would be lost so fast. I guess we can hope that when 0bama enacts his far left agenda it will shock some independents and moderates so badly they will jump to the right again.
Glad to hear that. Also, wondering if there are still absentees to be counted in Virgil Goode’s race, which shows him 81 votes behind Perreillo. Anyone have anything on that?

Not really. Overall, it’s a conservative city but there’s a lot of old money (read: Democrat) there too. That’s how Democratic-mayor-for-life Meyera Oberndorf keeps getting re-elected.
And don’t get your hopes up about those being overwhelmingly military votes. We generally keep our registrations in our home states and voted absentee. Why? Virginia has a state income tax. Most states have a Soldiers and Sailors Act that exempts out-of-state military from state income tax. Florida and Texas don’t have an income tax at all, so an awful lot of military tend to be “from” there.
White women according the polls where the reason for the Obama win and Democrats being elected in the state of Virginia. White men went with McCain.
Why?
Abortion. Sarah Palin reminded women about all the abortions they had and they savaged her for it.
