I think Americans may indeed be pro-life at least at a philosophical level but the problem is that many who call themselves "pro-life" have made their peace with the culture of death (and I include myself in that category).

What this means is that it's not something that causes us pain on an hourly, daily or even weekly basis. Every January 22 we might get the odd pang or two but apart from that, we've blotted it out. It's a silent holocaust, so we don't see it and thus out of sight is likewise out of mind, too. We've come to accept that Roe v Wade, while repugnant, is probably here with us for the short and medium term and so we shrug and move on.

I'm convinced if people were confronted with the horror and violence of abortion and understood the harm it's doing to this country, they would never vote for Obama, but it's just not a burning issue for them. They're asleep at the wheel and so they vote their pocketbooks or whatever else about him attracts them.

Personally, I don't think we'll ever see the end of legalized abortion until we rediscover chastity, forsake fornication and turn our backs on our pornographic culture. It's unrealistic to expect abortion to go away while we're living in a hedonistic, carnal, self-indulgent culture, because abortion is the sacrament of this particular "church". However, I don't think we can do this voluntarily in our present condition. We're too weak. There has to be a spiritual re-awakening in this country for abortion to cease and that will likely only come after some great suffering or catastrophe which brings us back to our senses. I pray that's not the case but every day makes it appear more likely.

Truly a sad day in America for the pro-life movement, but we must forge on.

I am very disappointed in many Catholics I know who voted for OB only because they voted their wallet and not their moral convictions. That bothers me more than anything, the fact that it all came down to money. A tax break (if that ever happens) over a human life! If people won't take a stand for life, I'm afraid God will not bless America.

It’s a sad day for the pro-life movement, to be sure. Have no doubt that God is testing us as he tested our fathers. We will now have many opportunities to stand up and speak the truth to power. Will be have the courage to do so?

I wonder if pro-lifers are willing to admit their tactics have been a complete and utter failure.

What, based on one election where abortion was massively trumped by the economic collapse?

We lost the battle. But we'll win the war. I know. I read the book.

One election?

Where have you been since 1972?

In my opinion every Catholic that voted for Obama, or pro-abortion candidates is nothing but a Judas, selling out Christ for their 30 pieces of silver.

Judas’s... all of them.

I agree. And when FOCA passes, I can officially cut my CINO, 0bama-loving parents out of my life.

It makes me sick that I just typed that out loud, but there ya go.

As of today, I started posting a daily Rosary on the Daily Readings thread -- also this prayer. Say it every day!

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
Thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
 Amen

One has to ask: How much longer before God drops the hammer on America. “Ah,Assyria, the rod of my anger-—the club in their hands is my fury! Against a godless nation I send him, against the people of my wrath I command him,to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like mire in the streets.” (Isaiah 10:5-6) Who is modern day Assyria?
And: “...”Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge and avenge our blood on the inhabitants
of the earth?” (Revelation 6:10) Will God really Damn America?
Maranatha,Lord Jesus, Soon!

I’ve been on Fr. Pavone’s con-call for past hour, many prolife leaders. We lost a battle, NOT THE WAR. Keep fighting. First and foremost, stop FOCA. NEW WEBSITE:

He doesn’t have to drop a hammer on us. All he has to do is withdraw his protection. Which I think he has. And we will consume ourselves.

Wrote an e-mail to my priest, he’s a good one. He was just as disappointed as me. He said he knew an older Friar who used to say “What this catholic church needs is some good old fashioned persecution.”

I think we’re gonna get it. I’m digging in, fortifying my position with prayer and fasting.

Amen. If FOCA is passed, every Bishop in this country better start formal, public excommunication of any CINO that votes to pass it. The Church can no longer refer to abortion as "intrinsically evil" and turn a blind eye to the men and women safeguarding and promoting the abomination. If they refuse, they should become former Bishops.

I'm as upset with the Church as I am with the GOP.

Formal, public excommunications.... Please God!

I’ve been disappointed as well. In fact, a catholic church in my city had a fund raiser for Obama, hosted by Herrod Brown and John Glenn. Posted in the local newspaper!

I wrote a letter to the diocese and called the church. The diocese contacted me and said the Bishop was ‘looking into it’ and contacted the church, but what came of it, I don’t know.
