GOP Palin Critics ‘Intellectual,’ Palin Backers ‘Knuckle-Draggers’?
Newsbusters ^ | November 3, 2008 | Matthew Balan

Posted on 11/03/2008 3:34:07 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

During a roundtable discussion on Monday’s Newsroom program with conservative talk show host Martha Zoller and her left-wing colleague Mike Malloy, CNN anchor Rick Sanchez strangely differentiated between "intellectual" conservatives who are "not so crazy" about Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and social conservatives who "love" her. Sanchez then described Zoller as a "mix" of the two. Later in the segment, Malloy opined that Sarah Palin "brought out the crazy people. That's what the Republican base is. The Republican base are people who don't want the queers to get married. They don't want a woman to have a right to privacy. They want to do away with capital gains taxes, which has nothing whatsoever to do with their life. What Sarah Palin did was bring out the knuckle-draggers, the mouth-breathers..."

The CNN anchor made the differentiation between "intellectual" and "social" conservatives as he brought up the results of CNN/Opinion Research poll that was taken between October 30 and November 1 that found that 65% of Americans thought that Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden had the "personal qualities" to be president, versus only 40% for Sarah Palin. Sanchez prefaced reading the results of this poll by asking, "Is this the reason he’s [McCain’s] suffering, as some intellectual conservatives will tell you?" Before he could continue, Zoller jokingly interjected, "Right -- as opposed to me." Sanchez reassured her, "Well, no -- you’re part of the -- well, you're actually a mix, because there’s social conservatives and the intellectual conservatives." Zoller replied, "I know, I know. I’m just kidding." Before continuing on the poll results, Sanchez tried to clarify what he meant by this distinction: "The social conservatives love Sarah Palin -- the intellectual conservatives, not so crazy about her."

I seem to remember that they said something similar about Bush. Something about coming out of the hills to vote.

I lived in an East Coast city, went to an Ivy-League School...most “intellectuals” are arrogant, pompous morons.

Rick Sanchez is from the Miami market down here in South Florida. He’s a wacko lib, and could NOT contain his glee that he would have a disaster to report on and make his name with during Hurricane Andrew.

He’s a Hispanic version of Olbermann.

"GOP Palin Critics ‘Intellectual,’ Palin Backers ‘Knuckle-Draggers’?"

Just shows how out of touch the media is -- and what a moron Rick Sanchez is.

I'm a conservative evangelical Christian who believes that Sarah Palin is exactly what middle America needs as a VP. But according to Sanchez and others I'm a knuckle-dragging rube.

Guess that my engineering degrees from Stanford and Princeton don't count. And the fact that I'm an honest-to-goodness rocket scientist.

Nope. Just a dumb rube.

Capital gains tax rates have nothing to do with the lives of people who support Sarah Palin?

LoL, and this is what passes for intelligence at CNN.

Never heard of this guy. But somebody who goes on like that is no "intellectual." This week his website refers to McCain and Palin as "The Old Pimp" and "The Ho". So he's got some nerve calling anybody else a "knuckle-dragger" or a "mouth-breather"

My wife and I stopped in 1988 when Katie Couric, for the first time, left her cute character and went on the attack against George HW Bush when he was running against Dukakis. Haven’t listened to network news since.
