Some thought Elizabeth Dole's ad--which questioned Hagan for attending an atheist fundraiser in her honor--would hurt Dole.
But a new poll out tonight by NBC news shows other wise.
625 likely voters interviewed statewide between October 29-30 showed if the election was held today, 46 percent would vote for Dole, while 45% say Hagan.
There's 4 percent margin error in this Mason-Dixon poll.
There are other polls including one from pollster.com that have Hagan up as much as four percentage points.

Ooops... please fix headline from North Caroline to North Carolina.
McCain and Dole will win both comfortably.
Looks like the godless ad worked.
Go LIddy! I could fly home tomorrow and vote for Liddy and McCain, and I could stop in NJ and vote too but since I have already voted in NV, that might not be a good idea. Neither state has taken my name off the voting rolls :)
The ad never said Hagen was godless, only that she was at the event; Hagen overreacted a bit too loudly for someone who was willing to attend the fundraiser.
Actually that atheist organization was an undercover Dole operation, meant to rope her opponent in and damage his prospects. A classic Nixonian operation.
Wow.. Polls are trending GOP EVERYWHERE!
I think it’s the pollsters trying to “get it right” in their final polls before the votes.
I think it was possibly in Fox news that they said it may have been the worst political ad ever. What’s the big deal? The truth hurts, apparently.
Please NC, do it for Jesse one more time.
Coal will bring in the "Rust Belt".
She is in the Democratic party. Does she have a problem with bribes, corruption or monumental abuse of taxpayers?
Thank GOD for this — I hope it holds.
