More than 30,000 Florida felons who by law should have been stripped of their right to vote remain registered to cast ballots in this presidential battleground state, a Sun Sentinel investigation has found.
Many are faithful voters, with at least 4,900 turning out in past elections.
Another 5,600 are not likely to vote Nov. 4 — they're still in prison.
Of the felons who registered with a party, Democrats outnumber Republicans more than two to one.
Florida's elections chief, Secretary of State Kurt Browning, acknowledged his staff has failed to remove thousands of ineligible felons because of a shortage of workers and a crush of new registrations in this critical swing state.
Asked how many ineligible felons may be on Florida's rolls, Browning said, "We don't know."
The Division of Elections has a backlog of more than 108,000 possible felons who have registered to vote since January 2006 that it hasn't had the time or staff to verify. Browning estimated that about 10 percent, once checked, would be ineligible.
The felons the Sun Sentinel identified never received clemency, but their names remain on Florida's voter rolls. Some are well-known: ex-Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne and ex-Palm Beach County Commissioner Tony Masilotti, for instance, both convicted last year of public corruption.
"The policy of this department, this state, is that we will err on the side of the voter," he said.
Florida registers voters largely on an honor system, asking applicants to affirm on a signed form that they are not convicted felons or that their rights have been restored. State law requires the Elections Division to conduct criminal records checks only after voters are added to the rolls, and it takes months or even years to remove those who are ineligible, the Sun Sentinel found.

why is it that this stuff never gets reported in time to do anything about it. and why are there seldom any convictions.
Which provides an interesting fact, one third of felons hold to the Republicans. A possible indicator of far too many intrusive laws?

I contacted the Florida Board of Election’s office a few weeks ago regarding this matter and was assured that all diligence was being used to correct the problem BUT, many felons have had their rights restored by request to the Governor. Really? How many? Surely not all of the 30,000 felons on the list.

Overtime this lack of attention by our federal, state and local voting officials to cleaning up and keeping clean the voter roles has allowed unlawful voters to remain registered and in many cases cast votes. With today’s technogoly it seems that they should be able to keep the registration roles up to date.

I sure don’t like the idea of federalizing anything. But, I think we’ve come to the point on the voting issue where we need one set of rules that apply to all voters.
I teach foreign adult students and, I must say, I’m ashamed for my country. We used to laughingly call countries that couldn’t hold a fair election ‘banana republics’. We used to send monitors around the world to ensure fair elections. Now we are the ones who need monitoring.
Again, I don’t like the idea of federalizing this process, but I think it’s necessary.
IMHO, you lose your right to vote, while in prison.
You get it back when you get out.

In some states one has to complete his parole period before he can be reinstated as a voter.

Looks like Florida has some work to do, I would think this commitment means Florida’s efforts would to o ensure that no vote is negated by a fraudulent vote. Democrats IMA depend on voter fraud and lies (with the help of the factually challenged media) for as much as one third of their votes. Except for propaganda and fraud and would clean their house or go the way of the Whig party.
Because it's all an illusion crafted by the MSM.
The stuff does get reported in time. The MSM 'reports' it to us when they want.
There are convictions, and sometimes they tell us, sometimes not. Many don't even listen.
Don't forget there are many investigations going on right now, FBI included, and there have already been some major indictments.
If you only knew of all the corruption that has been routed during the past 8 years, it would only scare you to then realize the scale of that corruption, and how our job is far from over.

to vote, the dem operative shows up at the voting location, claims the name of the convict as his own, may verbally provide the address on record, and that's it... press D please.
this is why the dems oppose identification before voting (it'd be way too many fake ids to create)
