Obama spent nearly $700,000 for stage, lights in Berlin

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama paid a German company nearly $700,000 for staging, sound and lighting services at a time he delivered a speech this summer in which he declared himself a “citizen” of both the U.S. and the world.

Billed as a highlight of Mr. Obama's July trip to Europe, the speech - to hundreds of thousands of people in front of the historic Victory Column in Tiergarten - was organized by the Berlin-based company Mediapool, opening much like a rock concert, with warm-up performances from the band Reamonn and reggae singer Patrice.

The German company, whose Web page says it specializes in theater and event management and advertises the Obama speech with numerous pictures on its marketing pages, is listed as a disbursement recipient on Mr. Obama's most recent campaign expenditures report, filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.

It’s all about the ego of duh messiah ... spending money like it’s rain water to enhance his image but too stupid to recognize form, without function, is worthless.

That’s enough to buy his brother in Kenya a 9,000 square foot hut.

That figure sounds a little high, even if it includes rental chairs.

Maybe it includes the warmup acts too? Or some padding?

Anyone have experience with production costs in the EU?

They neglected to separately itemize the free beer. Imaagine it was lumped in with “lighting”.

Perhaps it did. Who paid for the beer and sausages before the speech?

Obama spends money on lights, Palin spends money on clothes. Dig down deep enough and you’ll find wasteful spending everywhere. Republicans or Democrats, they are politicians, and therefore are wasteful idiots.

$700,000 could have bought school books for all the inner city children here in Detroit. They don’t have any because liberals have utterly destroyed the city over the last 30 years.

Or it could pay for a new indoor pool at Rev. Wright’s mansion....

It’s too bad Democrats don’t want to spread any of their wealth around. They seem to be rich beyond belief. But even when you do hear about a rich lefty donating money it isn’t to the U.S. Treasury.

Barack Obama Speech at the Siegessäule at the Grosser Stern.

By the time you add up the jet fuel, lodging, etc. to make that speech, you're probably looking at well over a million dollars. Why does a US presidential candidate do something like this in a foreign country?

Okay. I’ve heard about this already and his extreme investment in lighting is either a cover for unseemly “other” expenses or he needs fabulous lighting to deflect the fact that he’s a shallogram.

That offended me, too. Hitlery spends $6,500 per pants suit, and nobody complains. Ten of those would be $65,000, almost as much as Palin’s clothes cost. And who knows how much her face lifts cost?

That figure 700K is pure BS. There is no way that stage and daytime lighting would ever run that much money. This is a hit piece.

Not that that bothers me at all. Hit him all day long.

Dig deep enough, and maybe you will find some kickbacks into a bank account in Lichtenstein.

Obama has spent $600 Million on his campaign. There's more than enough room in that figure to stash away a few $million for his retirement in case he doesn't win.

I'm not someone who wears his religion on his sleeve or even goes to church very often but I do, in my imperfect private way, try to be a Christian as best I can. I also believes very deeply that race means nothing.

"Reverend" Wright's greed, pride, racism, hypocrisy, and genocidal hate offend me on a very deep level. He should look in the mirror. He will see a twisted recreation of the very white clad cross burners that he rails against. When he meets his maker, there will be an accounting.

Obama makes me sick. Morally and intellectually he is the tiniest man to every be this close to the White House. He will set race relations in this country back 50 years and that almost makes me want to cry.
