Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama paid a German company nearly $700,000 for staging, sound and lighting services at a time he delivered a speech this summer in which he declared himself a citizen of both the U.S. and the world.
Billed as a highlight of Mr. Obama's July trip to Europe, the speech - to hundreds of thousands of people in front of the historic Victory Column in Tiergarten - was organized by the Berlin-based company Mediapool, opening much like a rock concert, with warm-up performances from the band Reamonn and reggae singer Patrice.
The German company, whose Web page says it specializes in theater and event management and advertises the Obama speech with numerous pictures on its marketing pages, is listed as a disbursement recipient on Mr. Obama's most recent campaign expenditures report, filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.

It’s all about the ego of duh messiah ... spending money like it’s rain water to enhance his image but too stupid to recognize form, without function, is worthless.
He is redistributing the wealth to the peon workers.../s
That money could have fed a lot of hungry children.
$700K fer lights?
That’s enough to buy his brother in Kenya a 9,000 square foot hut.
He should run over there then. he has my blessings. Hope Merkle don’t mind.
That figure sounds a little high, even if it includes rental chairs.
Maybe it includes the warmup acts too? Or some padding?
Anyone have experience with production costs in the EU?
They neglected to separately itemize the free beer. Imaagine it was lumped in with “lighting”.
Perhaps it did. Who paid for the beer and sausages before the speech?
We all know how impressionable the Germans are to charismatic “leaders”
He is redistributing the wealth to the porn workers.
There fixed it for you.
Or his Aunt in the slums.
Or his brother in the hut.
Obama spends money on lights, Palin spends money on clothes. Dig down deep enough and you’ll find wasteful spending everywhere. Republicans or Democrats, they are politicians, and therefore are wasteful idiots.
But they took in a couple of million on the www.barackobama.com web site afterwords. Hmmm he is a pretty smart! Not! Let’s beat this POS.
Is this what got the Times kicked off the plane?
Actually, only a tenth of what he spent on his Greek Temple.
ACORN did the lighting for him, right?
$700,000 could have bought school books for all the inner city children here in Detroit. They don’t have any because liberals have utterly destroyed the city over the last 30 years.
Or it could pay for a new indoor pool at Rev. Wright’s mansion....
Drama Queen
Obama and Rev. Wright are having a blow of COKE right now, laughing together about how they were able to convince the FOOLS that Obama knew nothing of Wright’s Rantings and threw him under the Bus! Obama to Wright:” Those Idiot White Americans are so Bitter they will believe anything! even a Ragin Anti-American MUSLIM TERRORIST LIKE ME!”
It’s too bad Democrats don’t want to spread any of their wealth around. They seem to be rich beyond belief. But even when you do hear about a rich lefty donating money it isn’t to the U.S. Treasury.
Would have been better if he had done it in Nuremberg. Now that would require an impressive light show.
Just wait until he has direct unfettered access to YOUR wallet under color of law!
” $700K fer lights?
Thats enough to buy his brother in Kenya a 9,000 square foot hut.”
Or do something good like feed the people there for a long time.
By the time you add up the jet fuel, lodging, etc. to make that speech, you're probably looking at well over a million dollars. Why does a US presidential candidate do something like this in a foreign country?
Okay. I’ve heard about this already and his extreme investment in lighting is either a cover for unseemly “other” expenses or he needs fabulous lighting to deflect the fact that he’s a shallogram.
I take exception to your equating Palin with Obama.
***Is this what got the Times kicked off the plane?***
No, it was because the Washington Times endorsed McCain.
soros can spend what he wants in germany
Wasn’t the speech during the day? What were the lights for? His makeup room?
***I take exception to your equating Palin with Obama.***
That offended me, too. Hitlery spends $6,500 per pants suit, and nobody complains. Ten of those would be $65,000, almost as much as Palin’s clothes cost. And who knows how much her face lifts cost?
$150K of clothes that will go to charity is all the squawk of the left and this guy blows 3/4 of a million on lights?
Did “evil” George Bush ever do that to a news org?
Not that that bothers me at all. Hit him all day long.
This should be another October surprise. $700,000 in Germany?
Dig deep enough, and maybe you will find some kickbacks into a bank account in Lichtenstein.
Obama has spent $600 Million on his campaign. There's more than enough room in that figure to stash away a few $million for his retirement in case he doesn't win.
I would love to see where some of this cash ended up. He has been living like Elton John on Tour. What a wast, with all the press and all the money he still cannot deliver a K/O on the weakest GOP candidate ever.
Major FAIL!
"Reverend" Wright's greed, pride, racism, hypocrisy, and genocidal hate offend me on a very deep level. He should look in the mirror. He will see a twisted recreation of the very white clad cross burners that he rails against. When he meets his maker, there will be an accounting.
Obama makes me sick. Morally and intellectually he is the tiniest man to every be this close to the White House. He will set race relations in this country back 50 years and that almost makes me want to cry.
I take exception to you reading too much into a post.
Campaigning in foreign lands. He is a joke.
