Barack Obama's story, spanning from his mother's roots in Kansas to his father's in Kenya and his childhood spent in Hawaii and Indonesia, has been well chronicled and a central part of his allure as a candidate who transcends national and racial lines.
But one small part might have remained largely hidden from public view. In a first-floor apartment of a brick public housing complex on a side street in South Boston lives a woman who city officials believe is Obama's aunt. Her name is Zeituni Onyango, as in the "Auntie Zeituni" in one of his books, a polite and playful resident with an accent that recalls a more exotic place than where she is now.
She has shunned public attention and made little fuss over Obama's meteoric rise from modest means to the near pinnacle of American politics. But word has been spreading among those in her building.
William McGonigle, deputy director of the Boston Housing Authority, said Onyango told agency officials earlier this week that she is Obama's aunt. McGonigle said Onyango has been a resident of public housing for several years. She has worked for the agency as a resident health advocate, receiving a small stipend. He said she had hoped to avoid attention resulting from the campaign.
The Globe could not confirm last night, through genealogical records or the Obama campaign, that there is a relationship. The Obama campaign declined to comment or acknowledge a relationship.
During two visits by reporters to her apartment yesterday morning and afternoon, and in a phone conversation last night, Onyango made clear her desire to stay out of the way of Obama's campaign, with only days to go before the election.

There are moments when I believe that Obama outclintons Bill Clinton. I actually think Obama is a more effective liar than Bill Clinton. Not an easy accomplishment.
Barack is a multi-millionaire and Michelle Obama alone was making $300k in the private sector.
But Barack needs other people’s money to help his poor relatives? WTF???
Think of our presidents of past. Men with roots, home towns, childhood friends, schoolmates, military buddies, mothers, brothers, sisters - family, community, nation.
Then think of Obama.

The DNA does not match. And the host will reject it.
She is a relative of Obama. She can request and get his birth certificate!!! Someone should offer her $10,000 and fly her out to HI!
Isn't it amazing how quickly they can throw a story together to show that they're on top of it? Then again, all the Times did was consult public records, then contact the woman -- something apparently too involved for the Boston Globe? I doubt it. They knew how it, they just refused to report it.
By the way, according to the Times story, Zeituni said, “I have been coming to America ever since 1975. I always come and go.”
Imagine that: a poor Kenyan native who somehow manages to scrape together airfare to "come and go" for the last 33 years. But not a mention of that in Obama's memoir -- according to him, Zeituni is just one more example of his authentically colorful, historically oppressed native Kenyan family, dreaming of, but never seeing, the lands of the west...
Someone needs to help this lady out and throw a press conference.

I BARTEND ACROSS THE STREET from this place (Whities/Croke Park, free pool & $3 20oz. Guiness, D & Broadway,party central during the St.Patrick’s Day Parade). Bostonians (real Bostonians) now the place as the ‘D Street Projects’.
This is UN-F’N-BELIEVABLE! I watched the noon news on WBZ and was shocked that they even mentioned this, but they only briefly said ‘Obama has ties to Boston’.
I mean WHERE THE ‘F’ WAS THE GLOBE & THE HERALD on this? (can you say IN THE TANK?) She told the reporter she could speak more about Obama ‘AFTER NOV. 4’. You bet your ass he knows where all his family is. This whole thing reminds me of when he first announced he was gonna run & he sent one of his lackies up here to Somerville to settle his unpaid parking tickets from his Harvard days.
I remember that.
Win or lose (and "lose" is fervently hoped for) on Tuesday, this guy has to be exposed for what he is -- a criminal operation.
If he loses, he won't go away. If he wins, God help us all.
