John Daly getting drunk and out of control and passing out? Never!
“The staff at Hooters were trying to get him to leave. The officers were called out. They had to realize he was unfit to drive. He may have been unfit to walk for all we know.”
He was even more gone when they showed up. He was passed out.
“When they arrived, Daly was being treated by emergency workers after losing consciousness.”

Damn! I always pull for John, but he just can’t stay off the sauce. His alcoholism has cost him millions in winnings and endorsements and has ruined many of his personal relationships. Just Sad!
His situation always makes me think of Steve Howe of the Dodgers. Two immensely popular talents who pissed away everything!
It’s surprising the guy is still alive really. He’s had problems for a long time. Sooner or later your luck runs out when you abuse yourself this way.

BTW, I used to get a big kick out of Hough throwing that knuckle ball. It really fooled the batters and probably extended his career by three to five years.
Howe received 10,000 chances and could not comply...wonder what he is doing now.
BTW I could not find anything on what Charlie Hough is doing these days.

I believe I heard that Steve Howe had died. He never did get his life together. It came rather unexpectedly as I recall, but I don’t remember the particulars.
In the early 80s we were taking our kids to Dodger stadium. We really enjoyed the team. Cey, Lopes, Garvey, Baker, Yeager... those were the days.
Then O’Malley got vexed that they didn’t win a World Series after getting there a few years out of five, so he cut them all loose. And then they didn’t get back to the series for about fifteen years. Perhaps they did once during that time and I have forgotten.
That was the end of my Dodger days. It’s never been the same since. I’ll never forget them winning with the old broken down guy hitting an unforgettable home run and gimping around the bases, but that was an anomaly.
You just get to like a player and they’re shipped out these days. I never in my life saw a club like the Dodgers lose so many games to former employees either. How many excellent pitchers can you give away? They come back to beat them over and over again. And the Dodgers couldn’t get them to produce. It had to be the coaching IMO.
It’s really sad. I grew up listening to the St. Louis Cardinals at night. It was like magic. My grandfather and I listened together, and I knew the players and the game well.
Harry Carey, Jack Buck, Musial, Lou Brock, Kune, McGraw, Curt Flood...
It has been nearly fifty years, and I remember their names. I couldn’t tell you five current names on the Dodger club. Baseball has nearly been destroyed. It has for me anyway.
Yes, I believe he was about 47 when he retired.
I also remember each of the folks you mentioned. Those were the days. Howe did get a number of chances. Dock Gooden did too. And Strawberry came out to California to make a new start, then shot his mouth off.
I would have given one of my testicles to play professional baseball when I was a kid. And then you see some of these folks actually make it, then throw it away. Beats me.
Thanks for checking on Hough. Smart guy. He wanted to extend his career and found a way to do it. He’s probably sipping a mint julep somewhere, living the life.
Charlie Hough used to be a pitching coach — I don’t know if he still is these days. His daughter, Julianne, is on “Dancing With the Stars.”
