NY Daily News Hamill Implies Democrats Defecting To McCain Are Racist
newsbusters.org ^ | October 28, 2008 | Kerry Picket

It is no surprise the media is going full throttle on the racism issue in this final week of the campaign. There seems to be concern among liberals that usual democratic voters will pull the lever for John McCain. NY Daily News writer Denis Hamill wrote an article today illustrating his concern that his white liberal contemporaries were defecting to McCain. Hamill emphasizes in each example that these Democrats are voting McCain because of Obama's race. (my emphasis added):

But we're nervous. We're Jewish and I spoke to my parents down in Florida today. They're voting for McCain."

"Because he's white," said the wife. "Same with my parents."

"They just won't vote for a black man," the guy said. "And they're Democrats! Never voted Republican before!"

If it were an isolated incident, I wouldn't mind.

But the woman at my table added that the only one of her three sons who was a registered Democrat was voting for McCain because he was white.

And I've been hearing stuff like that for the past few months. What I hear banging around Queens is not, of course, a scientific survey. It's anecdotal. But after a while you feel a disturbing vibe.

"Most of the guys at my law firm are voting for McCain," said a lawyer I know. "Not for any specific issue. Because he's white. No, make that because he's not black. It's scary because these are educated people."

He said his own wife was voting for McCain for the same reason. And she's a teacher.

Other educated white people have told me that "it's too soon" for a black man to be president. Or, "I thought it would happen in my kids' lifetimes, not mine."

Dennis did always want to be his big brother Pete.
Both are weenies. Neighborhood weenies, but weenies nonetheless.

(Yeah, I grew up in the same neighborhood. No, I didn't know them personally.)

Sure lets put their name and faces in the newspaper for rioters to use on election night. I wonder how many people will get killed by the Obama thugs.

The Obama camp has really done a job on people. I usually ask people up front who they're voting for. In years gone by, people will usually tell you...no problem. This year it's not like that. I have a new friend and I asked him who he's voting for. He told me that it's private. HUH? This guy is not a "private" kind of guy. I called my sister-in-law...the same response...HUH? Well, the bottom line is that normal people (people who don't post on political chat boards) are scared to say they're not voting for Obama. It incredible. I was with my friend again today and tried to get it out of him and he said, "You must be for Obama.." I was floored. After picking myself up and telling him I'm for McCain..a look of relief came across his face. I AM NOT KIDDING. I guess he thought I was one of those people that was going to "get in his face."

What a year.

Interesting.

I’m not sure that I’d call it racist to refuse to vote for a black guy who has spent his entire life hating white people, and promising to get back at them, but maybe they are still a bit mixed up about about these things, having been brainwashed all their lives.

Obama condemns himself out of his own mouth, if the media would just let us hear him speak.

Rush is right. Rush says democrats don’t decide how to vote based on a set of core beliefs or defined principles.

They vote based on their emotions... and also the candidates skin color as it turns out!!! LOL

I’m voting for McCain because he killed communists. I like people who kill communists. Until obama can get out there and kill communists, I won’t vote for obama.

See communists.
See communists run.
Die, communists, die!

Oops, never mind...I dug through the recesses of my brain and remembered it was the third brother, Brian Hamill who I went on a date with. Thank God he’s not a writer too...he’s a photographer.

I wish I'd thought of that one. I'll be using it if I get a chance. Right on!

So if they vote for him it’s because he’s post racial but if they vote against it’s because he’s half black. A bit of contradiction there. How can you be a post racial figure if your skin color is the decisive factor?

Goes both ways...how many black voters abandoned Hillary, a woman they’d supported for years, the minute someone came along that shared their skin tone?

Not that I really get this whole obsession with skin color myself. I’m not of the civil rights era. I was a child that attended school with people of all color and ethnicities and thought nothing of it. Most of my age group did. The guilt retoric just doesn’t resonate, except to irritate. I’ve nothing to feel guilty about.

Those of my parent’s generation, well many of them supported equality for blacks so why should they feel guilty now? I’m sure being called racists for not supporting Obama isn’t sitting well with them.

There may be some people opposed to him on race out there, and probably true more on the Democrat side, but until they call out the people supporting Obama because he’s black I’m going to ignore them. It cuts both ways. You can’t encourage racism in favor of Obama and then condemn it when it doesn’t favor him.

i would call that racism.

it’s like during the 2003 recall election of gov grey davis.

a latina, not long arrived from the country immediately south of california,

inquired of me about her voting for cruz bustamente for governor.

i tried in vain to explain that most americans vote for ideas not their tribes.

Liberals, do we HAVE to vote for ANY black man in order to avoid your scary namecalling?

P.S. Voting for Obama does not medically prove you are not racists. Tell your friends.

Someone ought to ask Hillary why all those black Democrats voted for Obama. especially since there was very little difference between the two on policy matters.

I was going to edit the line as,

"Most of the guys at my law firm are voting for McCain," said a lawyer I know. "Not for any specific issue. Because ... these are educated people."

Bail-out-less if Obama gets elected.

Exactly. Obama's entire life is marinated in Marxism and racial resentment, but if white people decline to support him they're accused of being racists.

People are just shrugging, saying “everyone is racist, I certainly know that I am.” It has been overused. As in any verbally abusive/manipulative relationship, after a while, the recipient of the abuse just agrees with the abuser and moves on. “Right, I am (fill in the blank). What are you? I’m human. Sue me.”

Amazingly, I am also hearing the truth about zerO from older ladies who I know do not spend much time online. I think people have successfully passed the word, maybe with print outs, at church and PTA and the informal shooting ranges we all have out here. Also, I know that the old hippies/yuppie Progressives do not watch much media. They are mostly NPR types. I am wondering if their relatives and city friends are PUMAs. Perhaps the PUMAs have gone viral?
