Raise the Minimum Wage to $9.50 an Hour by 2011: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that people who work full time should not live in poverty. Even though the minimum wage will rise to $7.25 an hour by 2009, the minimum wage's real purchasing power will still be below what it was in 1968. As president, Obama will further raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit...Expand Paid Sick Days: Today, three-out-of-four low-wage workers have no paid sick days. Obama and Biden support guaranteeing workers seven paid sick days per year.

I was listening to a radio show today and they mentioned some items on Obama's plan on poverty. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so I checked it out, sure enough...the guy is trying to drive the small business owner out of business. These are just two snippets from his plan, there's more at the link.

If $9.50/hour is good, then clearly $500/hour is better. That would make every minimum wage earner a millionaire in one year and there would be no more poverty!!! Way to go, Obama!

Outsource your business's labor and cook your own food. Problem solved.

They must be getting desperate. He’s trying to buy some more votes. He doesn’t realize that everyone who was going to vote for him who are in the “minimum wage” category have already decided.

Oh you will have to work...to get the benefit. They are not going to hand out those wages without a return from the receiver. This is the hook to get these people believing he has the answers. Just wait ‘til they pull on the line—you will respond.

What happens to the worker whose output is worth less than $9.50 an hour?

Up to 9.50 from what, 6.00? So what is that another quarter on the Big Mac?

His “need” is worth more than $9.50. By definition—thanks to Joe Biden.

In America, the poverty rate directly corresponds to the number of hours worked per year.

You can’t expect to get out of poverty when you don’t “pay your dues”.

And giving money to poor people doesn’t make them less poor (though this concept causes many a lib jaw to drop in disbelief) because they simply buy things that depreciate or are consumed.

Think of this: these socialists intend to have a national healthcare plan. They could fund it by charging you a huge percentage for eating that Big Mac you over paid for. Use tax.

I actually prefer consumption taxes over income taxes, but that is a discussion for another thread, I’m sure.

A disaster waiting to happen for small businesses, large companies, the economy, and everyone else who’s not on welfare or on other government aid programs.

It’s not about those who work for minimum wage. It’s about the union labor contracts whose wages are set a certain percentage above whatever minimum wage happens to be. This is where it becomes a much bigger deal than a “quarter on a Big Mac”. Add to this the elimination of the secret ballot, and...can you say ka-ching$!
