First it was Barack Obama's encounter with Joe the Plumber. Then there was his 2001 interview at Chicago radio station. Today, Ed Morrissey at Hot Air highlights yet another in what is turning out to be a long line of links and other items proving that Democratic candidate Barack Obama is a longtime dedicated, doctrinnaire soc-, soc-, (yes, we're still allowed to say it) socialist.
It comes from the March-April 1996 edition of New Ground, a publication of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (CDSA).
I'll cite the relevant verbiage after the jump. But what's more important, I will show just how easy it would have been for a journalist searching Google to find this item. The fact that either no one found this, or that those who might have found it obviously ignored it, shows just how lazy and/or negligent Old Media has been in vetting the Illinois senator's fitness to be president.
Here's what Obama had to say at "A Town Meeting on Economic Insecurity: Employment and Survival in Urban America" on February 25, 1996 in Chicago (bullets added by me for clarity, bold is mine):

Palin and Co. need to tie this around Obama's neck like a Winnie Mandela 'necklace'.

It is amazing that I now long for the day when the media would point something out about Clinton, Gore or Kerry...but then try to exlain it away and say it wasn’t a big deal or was just a lie.
Now they just don’t bring it up and act like it doesn’t exist.

And darn FAST. Everyone to a person I talk to (except some relatives) are voting for Lord Barack Øbama, because they WANT socialism. Every word out of their mouth is about class warfare. Who has been preaching class warfare and infiltrated the total public education system K-graduate degree? The DEM Activists like Ayers and Øbama and now they are finally going to get their payback for long and hard work all these decades. Ayers is probably wetting his pants looking at the culmination of so many years work. Atlas Shrugged, for all of you that have not read it. Get a copy soon. It is on the doorstep and I do not see McCain going negative enough. When has he stood up and placed the blame for Freddie and Fannie squarely on Barney Frank, Dodd, Carter, Clintoon? He does not like fighting down in the trenches with the RATS - he would rather cross the aisle. I voted for him, but he was not my choice. Same characteristics as GWB - will not take on the RATS at their gutter level. No other way to win - too much of the population want DEM SOCIALIST policies these days and it is the result of re-education in the public schools all funded with out own tax dollars. America taken down from within.

...shows just how lazy and/or negligent Old Media has been in vetting the Illinois senator's fitness to be president. I wouldn't call it negligence, I'd call it intentional refusal.

Newsbusters needs to mention what the DSA thought of Obama’s speech...it must have been quite impressive since four years later they still remembered it:
“When Obama participated in a 1996 UofC YDS Townhall Meeting on Economic Insecurity, much of what he had to say was well within the mainstream of European social democracy.”

I second that. I never, ever could understand why he wants to run a 'sweetness and light' campaign against the DemocRATs all the while Reid and Piglosi are stabbing him in the back??? He should spend some time running against a radical left wing demonrat congress
