It was obvious from reading the article. I would guess the cops had a sense at the onset. I wish we had caning in this country.
Once they spotted inconsistencies in her initial statement, they asked her to repeat the story/incident. Each time, unless extremely well thought out, the inconsistencies become magnified and multiply...Eventually the inconsistencies become so great, the suspect will admit their allegations were false.
Once she was told if she admitted to filing a false police report and came clean, she might receive a more lenient sentence. After being worn down, she bit.
She'll now need to go into hiding, hoping her mug will be forgotten.
