ABOARD THE STRAIGHT TALK AIR Sen. John McCain on Wednesday blasted President Bush for building a mountain of debt for future generations, failing to pay for expanding Medicare and abusing executive powers, leveling his strongest criticism to date of an administration whose unpopularity may be dragging the Republican Party to the brink of a massive electoral defeat.
"We just let things get completely out of hand," he said of his own party's rule in the past eight years.
In an interview with The Washington Times, Mr. McCain lashed out at a litany of Bush policies and issues that he said he would have handled differently as president, days after a poll showed that he began making up ground on Sen. Barack Obama since he emphatically sought to distance himself from Mr. Bush in the final debate.

While I agree with some of what he says, this is simply a last minute opportunity to distance himself from Bush to garner some votes from the “All Republicans are evil” crowd.
I think McCain needs to be hitting Obama....not Bush.
It’s always fun to watch one Rino attack another Rino.
i agree with EVERYTHING he says... but his own ‘reaching across the aisle’ has not helped any either
He should have brought up he was Bush’s biggest advocate and ally in the fight for amnesty.
McCain’s right as far as it comes to spending...
I see what he is trying to do, but all this does is give another club to BO to beat McCain with about how he voted with Bush but now he is against Bush.
McCain should just focus on the BO big spend plan.
Some good points, but too little too late.
Looks like flailing.
FUNDAMENTALS people. Can’t stress it enough.
Tax cuts vs. tax hikes.
Well did he include his party’s elite’s insistence on pushing Amnesty for Illegal Aliens with him as the chief cheerleader?
If McCain makes the Republican party look this bad, why would folks vote for another Republican? This is a slippery slope.
You forgot to include “(Barf Alert)” in the title of this thread! ;-)
I thought the word “Mccain” covered it. LOL
I really don’t have a problem with him calling out GWB on spending. He should, however, commend him on keeping America safe since 9/11.
I don't know about the Republican party as a whole but Bush has been a big time spender and a loser in my opinion except when it comes to the WOT...
The reality is the Bush administration deserves to be roundly criticized for many things. Anyone who thinks otherwise is in denial. Now, does that mean I think Bush is the anti-christ like the leftists have claimed? Nope.. But there are many many things this administration deserves to be criticized and called to the carpet for.
I voted for this guy twice, and don’t regret either vote given the choices we had at the time. But I don’t hold this administration as one of the greatest in history. He’ll be judged well for WOT in the long run, but there’s a lot of stuff especially domestically that his administration handled poorly.
Now, know this, I am not going to get into a debate on this, so flaming me will not get a response, I am just stating the honest facts as I see them. Folks that disagree are welcome to, but I am not going to waste time attacking of defending specific policies. We have an election to win folks.
Obama has been running that “McCain Voted With Bush 9X% of the Time” incessantly, so this is a response to it.
Yes.
If McCAIN doesn’t improve his numbers on the tax issue, he will lose.
Right now more people believe they will get a tax cut from BO than McCain!
McCain is very fortunate that the thought of electing Obama is so frightening. the only reason I voted for him.
He is also fortunate that someone had the good judgment to bring Sarah Palin on as his VP candidate. Almost wish Sarah would tap John on the shoulder and say ...move aside.
Don’t agree with Pres Bush on all of his positions/policies but he’s a man of courage and has kept us safe for 8 years.
just my opinions......
