HONOLULU (KHNL) - Congressman Neil Abercrombie lashed out at Governor Linda Lingle Friday, after statements she made recently on the mainland.
While campaigning in Colorado and Nevada for Republican presidential candidate John McCain and running mate Governor Sarah Palin, Abercrombie says Lingle questioned Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's Hawaii ties.
Born and raised in Hawaii, and a graduate of Punahou School, Barack Obama has always cherished, and embraced his connection to the islands.
But this past week on the mainland, Lingle told reporters Obama has never voted in Hawaii, nor has he owned a business here.
"Senator Obama likes to say he's from Hawaii. But, the truth is, I've never met him in my life. He's never called me on the phone. Ninety-five percent of the people in my state had never heard of him before he ran for president" said Lingle.
"To have the governor of the state of Hawaii disparaging someone who is after all born and raised in Hawaii and has carried on a campaign at this high level is a very, very sad day" said Abercrombie.
A spokesman for Lingle, who returned to Honolulu Friday morning, says the comments were taken out of context, and were in no way meant to disparage Senator Obama, or his family members who still live here.
Abercrombie disagrees, saying the comments appear to mirror the negative tone set by Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
"When Hawaii is in your heart as well as in your mind then wherever you go Hawaii is always with you, everybody, everybody who has ever left Hawaii for whatever reason always carries Hawaii with them".
Abercrombie also says Lingle missed a perfect opportunity to promote Hawaii around the world.
"People love Hawaii and the idea of Hawaii and what it means. It's a rare and beautiful thing, and to knock it down in the process of trying to knock someone else down is a very sad approach"
A spokesman for Lingle says Lingle was only responding to a reporter's question about an Obama statement, where he indicated he understood western issues because he's from a western state.
Lingle is fairly courageous in taking such a prominent role in the campaign. Hawaii is a very Democrat heavy state and she can only survive there as a politician with crossover votes.
We're not even sure if he was born there! And if he was, why can't we see what's on his (real) birth certificate?
Lingle appears to have struck up a friendship with her fellow female GOP guv, Sarah Palin, over the last couple of years. I thought Lingle gave a good and effective speech at the RNC.
I'm sure there are Hawaiian's who witnessed Hussein miraculous birth in any of the hospitals on the island? There are Kenyan relatives who claim to have witnessed the birth in Africa but I've yet to see or hear of any confirmed birth sightings in US soil.

Yep, they were all part of the lefty circle at University of Hawai’i. Neil hasn’t changed much from those days, and Obama didn’t fall far from the tree, either.
Some have said that he once had a lucrative pharmaceuticals business in his earlier days.

a testimony to the mental destitution of his constituents .
Lingle on the other hand , as a representative of Hawaii , should have the courage to point out the Obama connection to
famous Waikiki pervert and well known commie Frank Marshal Davis . Davis was Obama’s first black mentor . He may be behind Obama’s supposed bisexual proclivities as well .

The good news is that Andrew Martin has filed a suit to try to get Obama’s records in Hawaii (birth certificate, etc.) and named Linda Lingle (who we all know is a friend of Palin’s) and the judge presiding over the case (Circuit Court Judge Bert I. Ayabe)was appointed by Lingle.
Just maybe something will be produced that will expose the real Obama.
Well of course Obama wants it stopped and it appears others will go along with him.
Linda Lingle is one of the very few Jewish Republicans. A real gem. God bless her.
I knew Abercrombie peripherally, and I am told by mutual friends that I also was acquainted with Barack Obama senior (although I do not remember him), and that the Dunhams lived two or three houses down the block from me in Manoa Valley, although I did not know them at all.
Interesting development - Obama is leaving his campaign for two days to go to Hawaii to see his ‘ailing’ grandmother!
Isn’t the timing a kawinkidink? I think as many investigative reporters and lawyers that went to Alaska to snoop around on Sarah Palin and her family, should decend upon Hawaii to verify Obama’s grandmothers’ illness.
Obama wants to stop her and anyone else from talking to Andrew Martin.
