Please pay attention Roger Wicker and Greg Davis
There are many myths in southern culture. One of the latest is the myth of the modern day, "conservative" Mississippi Democrat.
Currently, Senator Roger Wicker (R) and Greg Davis are locked into real battles with former Governor Ronnie Musgrove (D) and Rep. Travis Childers (D), respectively, for federal contests.
Let's start this conversation with two basic facts. First, Mississippi is overwhelmingly conservative. That's a given. To even have a prayer (pardon the pun), a Democrat for statewide office must be conservative on God, guns and abortion. That's just a fact. A "true progressive" has zero chance in Mississippi (thank goodness). However, judging by the money coming in from the DSCC and the DCCC, which are by and large funded by "progressive" interests, Musgrove and Childers don't have any problem taking money from people who they say they don't agree with.
The second immutable fact is that THE MOST IMPORTANT vote a legislator ever makes is for the leadership of the body. We saw that here in Mississippi in early 2008 in a hotly contested race for Speaker of the House. Leadership sets the agenda for the body during the term of that legislative session, and the agenda of the body is largely a reflection of the people elected to leadership.

Here's the point -calling yourself a conservative and supporting Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid is an absolute impossibility. You can be a conservative. You can support Obama, Pelosi & Reid. You cannot do both.

a conservative democrat is just someone who says the right things in order to give Pelosi and rangel more control over everyone.
This is one of the reason why I have posted here, sent emails to RNC, and emails to the McCain campaign that we need them to campaign down here and spend money on advertising. The Democrats were defeated, but they never left. Like bad weeds they just keep popping up. The battle continues in all states, let there be no confusion.
What is it going to take for RNC to wake up and smell the coffee? I think they are all a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings up there. Its either that, or they are too stupid for their own good.
I remember talking to a GOP'r in Montgomery who was mad as a hornet. They were having to dig deep in their own pockets to stave off some of the worst "scare tactics" advertisments. GOP was doing NOTHING to stop them. Democrats picked up seats in local legislature.
Well, I don't know what you do. RNC is just inept. There is so much they could do. One thing they did get right was to build some infrastructure around the country. When Dole ran, he had trouble getting funds to get offices up. After that election GOP got to work and set up some permanent office sites (or so I'm reading) around the country. At least they did that. Besides that, what the heck are they doing besides raising money?
The RNC isn’t inept. It is simply outgunned thanks to McCain feingold. How ironic for McCain to be slaughtered by Obama by his own dumbass bill.
I live in GA. Here - it’s pretty sweet right now (xpt City of Atl), but that was only because we had Ralphie Reed and Newt taking care of ensuring long-term substance. I am outraged that we’re fighting over NC. I still don’t truly think it’s purple, but to even consider it is ridiculous. We need conservative leaders who can be respected spreading conservative ideals. We win in ideals, we tend to lose in their message carriers.
Democrats in the South are trying to fake out the voters and are thoroughly phony.
They are “moderates” or “conservatives” in fiction, but not in fact.
bump
I live in GA, too and I think Saxby’s in real trouble. His love of immigration for agriculture and his vote FOR the bailout has put him on the crap list for many conservatives.
I agree. WSB let the lib candidate in on the televised debate at the last minute. WSB/Cox/Anne Cox Chambers/AJC must I go on are so in the tank for “the one” their Pantone color is now a cloudy shade of sky blue. Personally, I’m il over Saxby going bailout, but I know Jim Martin from former jobs and he’s wacko-mega-lib with a history of trouble in government because he tries to stretch his lib agenda too far. Saxby needs some help. I’ve got a sign, but I can’t talk to my conservative friends about him because they’re voting for him simply because of the veto-proof Senate possibilities. Like Ann Coulter says, get drunk and vote “Saxby.”
I live in Tennessee. We have a dem governer, 2 Republican Senators and a crapload of dem Congressmen. We have a few Republican Congresspersons. My rep is Lincoln Davis. He is a conservative democrat. He voted against the bailout twice. Of course, he probably knew they were going to get it anyway without his vote so he was allowed to pander to his conservative base. I have found that in Tennessee the people are very conservative but vote for democrats for local and state elections but elect Republicans for the US Senate and president. Of course the local and state democrats are Reagan conservatives compared to the Washington bunch. Then again Al Gore is from Tennessee and was elected to the US Senate, but my how he changed when he became VP. Believe it or not, he used to be prolife. Of course the people in Tennessee paid him back for his radical turn to the left by not supporting him in the presidential election.
They are inept and outgunned.
I agree that we need more leaders who work agressively every day as if our Republic depends on it, because it does. The Dems aren't just rolling over and playing dead.
