And Obama does and from what that Palin hasnt eclipsed? Would have been my followup, but Im not surprised. Hes been a thorn in our efforts since before the 2004 election when all those surprising anonymous tip flowed from the State Department to embarssass the Administration. His insurrection led to Andy Card asking for his resignation.
Note also Powells words match verbatim the Obama campaigns talking points on the standing in the world and the economy.
Youll remember that in February he had told a group of students that electing a black president would be electrifying? That led to preliminary talks with campaign officials who - yes - offered him a position in the coming administration.
Side note, Powell appeared at Senator Ted Stevens corruption trial as a character witness and gave testimony that he trust Stevens completely and As we say in the infantry, this is a guy you take on a long patrol
Yeah, on a bridge to nowhere. Tells you everything you want to know about his endorsement of Obama.

Not in the slightest.
Blacks before Macs.
No, he pretty much already endorsed him in April.
And who cares?
It is a race thang...of course
The same Powell that knew his deputy was the leak on Plame and allowed the Administration and Libby to take the hit. A disloyal individual, just like Obama.
I’m surprised it took so long.
My surprise was that he hadn’t endorsed him yet. I thought that had happened months ago.
In a racially blind world, Colin Powell’s career would have stopped at Lieutenant Colonel.
I am just happy that a good Republican endorsing Obama was able to let me see that this election has absolutely nothing to do with race. (Sarc.)
He just “ cut and run”.
Wonder what Petraeus thinks about this?
I am not surprised at this even a little. A black supporting a 6.25% black, 37.75% Luo, and 50% white is not a surprise as I was told anyone with a drop of black blood is black.
One good thing about this election we are seeing people out themselves. Powell testifies for Stevens as a character witness and Palin fought to end the good old boy system in Alaska. Look at Buckley’s son, Kathleen Parker, Peggy Noonan, George Will, the Fox All Stars, and others who were considered ‘conservative’ writers that now diss the McCain/Palin campaign. Some have even endorsed like Buckley.
The shake out in Conservative movement after this election is going to leave a lot of pundits with no support. Next goal should be to find conservatives to buy a Cable News Channel that is HONEST — Fox Fair and Balanced is a joke!
No surprise. I’m still trying to figure out what he is “troubled” about in the GOP. These people who cross over generally talk about how “troubled” they are without being able to give specifics. I chalk it up mainly to Powell being black and voting for the black guy, and score settling.
No surprise wholly racial motivated, I think that it might actually help McCain.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of saying it.
Powell is the gift that keeps on giving--especially to all things Bush or GOP.
One more betrayal--this time, he betrays not the President, not Scooter Libby, not the war effort-he betrays all of us.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. would have liked, I now know the "content of his character".
Nope. I never liked him, never trusted him and always thought he was a liberal wolf in sheep’s clothing. Now it’s out in the open and we can finally stop pretending that he’s ever been a Republican.
Powell would have been the ideal stealth communist/race baiter.
He must have had some BIG skeletons in his closet to have not run for President.
Ain’t that the truth. The Attack of the Quota People.
Notice that the only woman in the mix that isn’t a Quota-babe is Palin. This includes all the media fems. No wonder they hate Palin. She’s everything they are not. They try to be men.
That’s pretty much what everyone who served under him at Fort Carson said.
I really thought Powell would put COUNTRY before race, but apparently NOT.
