Sarah Palin appears with Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | October 19, 2008 | Matthew Moore

The Republican presidential candidate was shown laughing along with Tina Fey impressions, before taking the stage herself to deliver the hit satire show's "Live from New York, it's Saturday night" opening line.

Mrs Palin and Fey – who bears a resemblance to the Alaskan governor – wore the same red outfit for the show, which also included a comedy rap called Eskimos that made light of the Republican's passion for guns and hunting.

John McCain's running mate had been meant to perform the song herself, but changed her mind after deciding it could damage her campaign. Instead she was shown bopping along as it was sung by cast member Amy Poehler.

Fey's merciless parodies of the Republican have sent the NBC show's viewing figures soaring, and have been credited with contributing to the politician's declining popularity.

Last night's programme began with the comedienne hosting a press conference as Mrs Palin. She announced that she "looking forward to a portion of your questions" – an apparent dig at the Republican's evasive answers during television interviews.

Mrs Palin, who was shown watching the sketch on a monitor off-stage with the programme's executive producer Lorne Michaels, was then approached by the actor Alec Baldwin.

"This is the most important election in our nation's history and you want her, our Tina, to go out there and stand with that horrible woman?" the left-leaning Hollywood star said to Mr Michaels.

When informed that he was speaking to the real Mrs Palin, Baldwin joked: "You are way hotter in person."

"I must say, your brother Stephen is my favourite Baldwin brother," she responded.

Mrs Palin then replaced her impersonator at the press conference podium, creating a surreal moment as the two women crossed on stage.

So alec says Governor Palin is hot and she says that she likes his brother better. ;)

Attending personally alongside tina fey was a really good move. It wiped out a lot of the apparent derisiveness of tina fey's act and turned it back into humor.

I don’t know why anyone watches that show....

It is soooo not funny.

I did catch her spot....and then after that remembered why I never watch SNL...it is just so lame and so not funny.

I guess the last time that show was funny ...back in the days of David Spade and Chris Farley.

“Fey’s merciless parodies of the Republican have sent the NBC show’s viewing figures soaring, and have been credited with contributing to the politician’s declining popularity.”

My God, these people are so full of themselves.

We turned it off right after Sarah did the opening. Did she appear later in the show? We did not think she would so turned it off as we can not stand SNL.

Farley was a John Belushi wannabe. Spade annoys me to no end. SNL was funny for the first five year or so and then... downhill.

I saw it... she was great. She delivered her stuff with the timing of a pro. And that last skit where she played the teacher at “Narc School”... She delivered flawlessly.

I have to say, it was amazingly sporting of Alec Baldwin to join her for their bit. Didn’t expect that.

Yea, it was short and sweet, she did the bit described above and then just takes the podium and does the usual “Live from New York...” kickoff for the show.

The other appearance was non-speaking, just a cameo in a sketch.

Not bad at all.

Yah, late in the show. She played what probably would have been Tina Fey’s part as a teacher at a High School, where it turns out that all of the students are cops pretending to be high school kids, and there aren’t any actual students.

He was a bit wooden, though. I didn’t get the impression his heart was in this.

It has slowly declined right from the start, from the era of Aykroyd, Radner, Belushi and others, to Chase, Murphy to others was one thing, but after the slow decline it dropped like a rock after Will Farrell.

He was a bit wooden, though.

Heh, I suppose not. But then he's always a little wooden.

I'm guessing that he forced his way into last night's production, knowing that it was going to be highly rated and he could jump in front of the limelight.

How stupid is this guy? That was obviously the script. Does this fool really believe Amy Pohler could just improv a choreographed rap like that? What an idiot.
