The Peacock is preparing for a painful 2009.
NBC Universal head honcho Jeff Zucker is looking to slice $500 million in expenses, or 3 percent of the company's overall budget, ahead of next year. The cuts will come across all divisions, including the flagship broadcast network, cable channels Bravo and USA and the Universal film studio and theme parks.
"We are living in a time of unprecedented economic challenges, and it is increasingly clear that the worldwide economic slowdown will continue well into next year," Zucker wrote in an internal memo sent to employees late yesterday. "As we have been working on our budgets and planning for 2009, it has become evident that the decline in consumer confidence and spending will impact our operations."

Does this mean they’ll get rid of Matthews and Olbermann? Maybe they can make up a little bit of the shortfall by charging Obama more for his half an hour, after all, Obama wants to share the wealth.
Is Zucker the guy who helped “produce” the creepy “grassroots” video of those children singing praises to ObaMessiah?
Not to mention the decline in citizen confidence in NBC's biased coverage. Now those who tune out NBC because of their bias isn't a huge percentage, but it's enough to make a dent in their ratings and thus their revenue.

I didn’t graduate from Harvard Business School, but I suspect if NBC would tone down its overt propaganda for 0bama and all things leftwing, they might not be shrinking.
Just a thought.
Three letters: Olbermann and Matthews.
Liberal “thinking”:
500 million is THREE PERCENT of NBC’s budget, yet it is the oil companies who make “obscene profits”.
All this during an Election year where campaign ads bring in additional revenues.

Gee, I wonder what they could possibly do to enhance their financial stability.
I said long ago the move to demote O and Matthews was an attempt to move the network center for a sale. No way in hell is MSNBC attractive to anybody with their low-level fringe audiences. Can’t sell advertising or create programing if you are known for fruits, nuts, and conspiracies.
After the new year, I would suspect O and Matthews to accept being neutered completely, “retire”, or move to radio permanently. They don’t have anywhere else to go.
Hey Zucker!
pMsnBC and cnbc not too mention your news division could use more than a little culling. oh, and most of the carp you have in primetime sucks.
some of the folk at nbc couldn’t draw flies at a picnic if ya smear’d dung all over their faces.
It’s a matter of taste, yaknow.
