'Senator Government' Joe the Plumber cuts to the heart of the Presidential choice.
WSJ ^

'Senator Government' Joe the Plumber cuts to the heart of the Presidential choice. Whether or not last night's much-improved debate performance helps John McCain rally in the polls, at least voters finally got a clearer sense of the policy differences. For our money, the best line of the night was Mr. McCain's Freudian slip of referring to Barack Obama as "Senator Government." Neither candidate is offering policies that meet the serious economic moment. But Mr. McCain would let Americans keep more of their own income to ride out the downturn, while Mr. Obama is revealing that his default agenda is to spend money and expand the government.

APCribbing from Hillary Clinton's playbook, Mr. Obama called this week for a "90 day foreclosure moratorium for homeowners that are acting in good faith," whatever that last phrase means. When Mrs. Clinton proposed a foreclosure moratorium during the Democratic primaries, Mr. Obama had said it would lead to more expensive mortgages going forward. He was right then.

The Treasury's Hope Now program and the Federal Housing Administration are already helping to refinance homes for millions of homeowners. Anyone who isn't able to qualify for one of those voluntary programs and who still can't afford to pay a mortgage isn't likely to be any better fixed in a mere 90 days. Mr. Obama also overlooks that the banks that service the mortgages don't typically own them. They're owned by far-flung investors via a mortgage-backed security.

Mr. Obama apparently wants the feds to unilaterally rewrite contracts based on something as undefinable as "good faith." At the same time, he is repeating his proposal to change the bankruptcy code so judges can unilaterally rewrite mortgage contracts as well. All of this would make credit less available to working families in the future.

That just makes my skin crawl.

Here is a nice review of the differences between Obama/McCain tax plans. The problem is that nobody reads this type of in depth analysis any more:<?P>

“McCain would let Americans keep more of their money”

Those words should shake everyone to their core. The day it is understood that government “let’s” us keep money we earn.

Great, memorable moments for McCain:

“If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should’ve run 4 years ago.”

“Senator Government....”

“Joe the Plumber....”

I think McCain did exceptionally well in this debate. A key for him was making the distinction on taxes between him and Obama as well as the case for his tax cut proposal. Taxes are a winning issue for the GOP.

Also, bringing up Joe the Plumber in the debate was ingenious because now he’s all over the news as the everyman who thinks Obama is full of crap and is going to bring socialist hell to us. Right now Joe the Plumber is the most effective Republican spokesman in America.

McCain got what he needed in this debate to put him over the top. He got that memorable line. “If you wanted to run against Bush, you shoulda done that 4 years ago” is awesome. Obama didn’t have a response to that. People will remember a line like that, or the “Senator Government” Freudian slip. And, above all, they will remember Joe the Plumber.

“When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Not from whom you are taking said wealth.

Give the needy cash from your own pocket book, Senator Government - and leave mine the F### alone.

Did anybody else notice that Sen. Obama said he would only raise taxes on people "making $200,000 or more"? He has lowered the threshold from 250,000. He should say what he really means: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

the best line of the night was Mr. McCain's Freudian slip of referring to Barack Obama as "Senator Government."

They are not alone. My wife (who is far less politically tuned in than Freepers et al) thought this slip was a Godsend that would turn the election to McCain's favor.

Hope she is right. Not that I'm a McCain fan, but I prefer a liberal over a Marxist any day of the week.

This is a fellow of Ohioan of mine that BHO said he doesn't want to punish with his tax plan of higher taxes when Joe is trying to buy his plumbing company.

Never forget Joe:

Forget Ayers, Wright, ACORN, Keating 5, forget all the hype.

How would a McCain Administration or an Obama Administraion affect YOUR family?

That is the core issue of this eleciton. With the current financial instability on everyone's minds, how would either candidate effect YOU?

FRee Republic's very own Jeff Head has the info you need to share with all your neighbors and friends.

Print the chart. Pass it around!
