Former supervisor Jew pleads not guilty in extortion case Bay City News Service Former San Francisco Supervisor Ed Jew pleaded guilty in federal court today to three criminal counts related to extorting a $40,000 bribe to help local business owners obtain permits.
Jew, 48, pleaded guilty to counts of extortion, mail fraud, and soliciting a $40,000 bribe from representatives of Quickly tapioca drink shops. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston will sentence him in San Francisco on Feb. 13. The three counts carry a possible maximum sentence of 50 years in prison. Defense attorney Stuart Hanlon said outside of court that he expects the actual sentence to fall between probation with no prison time to three years in prison.
Jew, the owner of a Chinatown flower shop, was elected in November 2006 to represent the city's Sunset District. He resigned last January amid allegations that he lived in Burlingame rather than San Francisco while running for office and during his first five months in office.
Jew still faces state court charges of perjury, election code violations, voter fraud and providing false documents related to his residence. Hanlon said he hoped that case will be also be resolved by a plea bargain.

The name “Jew” is indeed Chinese as I have a friend who is a supervisor at a govt agency with that name.
Now, if I were a Chinese Jew, my name would be King Jew (as my first name in Hebrew is “Melech” - “king”). My sister’s name in Hebrew means “princess”. So we could be King Jew and Princess Jew if we did something to make this newspaper. Kreploch, stuffed dough (Perogies to some) are nothing but an older version of WonTons.
