Republicans ask officials to probe Barack Obama 'illegal contributions'
The Telegraph ^ | 10/6/2008 | Toby Harndon

The Republican national committee (RNC) said Mr Obama had accepted contributions from foreigners and taken more than the $2,300 maximum from donors who give in small amounts. RNC officials want the Federal Election Commission to examine Mr Obama's records in detail to determine the extent of the problem.

An Obama campaign spokesman denied the charges. Bill Burton said: "Our campaign has shattered fund-raising records with donations from more than 2.5 million Americans. We have gone above and beyond the transparency requirement."

Democrats are viewing the Republican claim as the latest example of a smear campaign against Mr Obama.

On Saturday, Mr McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, caused controversy with a vicious verbal assault on the Democratic candidate.

Until last week, Mr McCain's aides had kept Mrs Palin, 44, under wraps as much as possible, fearing that she was a liability. But after an assured performance in the vice-presidential debate, and with Mr Obama surging ahead in the opinion polls, Mr McCain ordered Mrs Palin, 44, to ferociously attack his rival for the presidency.

Mrs Palin accused Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists who would target their own country" in a reference to him once being a member of a Chicago community group with William Ayers. The former member of the Weather Underground was last active in the domestic terrorist group during the presidential candidate's childhood.

Ok, let's say the FEC investigates and determines that the problem is indeed extensive. What happens then?

Obama has THE SAME 50,000 people making a dozen $25 donations every day. How stupid is the media that they don’t care or see through this.

If they dare try to examine Bammie’s records, they’ll be accused of being a “racist.” Besides, the Obamedia and Karl Rove say the muzzie is going to win and those folks are still going to need their jobs after 01-20-09.

Propably the same thing that happened to Sandy Burglar when Bush’s Justice Department finished it’s investigation.

A wrist slap was what Sandy Burglar Got!

Did anyone watch Hannity’s America tonight? It was great! I only hope that someone in the McCain camp watched it too.

Many eyebrows were raised long ago when Obama went to Europe to campaign. Old East Berlin I think. The Kadaffi of Libya has also confirmed this in a speech he made. He admits that many in the Arab world and Africa are giving Obama their support.

Won't have any effect -- audits don't take place in less than a month. FEC doesn't have the power to overturn the results of an election.

If Obama were a conservative republican I guarantee he would be impeached before the 2010 elections.

this is the problem.....I don't think they look at ongoing corruption....I think they only look "back" and if a crooked fascist is in power, it doesn't matter if he says he's "sorry"....

besides, there will be no FEC then....

the crooks in Washington state do that all the time...the teachers union is always being investigated but it doesn't change outcomes....
