Rove: McCain broadcasts his strategy before acting
Fox News Sunday | 10/5/08

Posted on 10/05/2008 3:41:21 PM PDT by pabianice

From the long Karl Rove interview on today's Fox News Sunday. Rove can't understand (and neither can I) why the McCain Campaign has spent the past several days telling everyone that McCain-Palin are going after Obama's criminal/Marxist/terrorist friends and sponsors. Rove notes that Obama tells no one, he just suddenly attacks McCain in a new way.

Misdirection?

This is a good question. According to Rove, Obama now has a likely 273 electoral votes, three more than needed to win. Sen. Claire McCaskill was on beating the snot out of McCain-Palin. Joe Lieberman, on McCain's side, was kindly and ineffective.

What could McCain's strategy possibly be?

All I can think of is, by announcing it in advance, it creates anticipation and curiosity about how it will be played, and thus more publicity. Free publicity.

I do find it puzzling that the McCain campaign told everyone what they were going to do.

Of course they have been anything but smart during recent weeks.

GOD ONLY KNOWS!

What I KNOW, is that you don't announce your plans to the enemy to avoid being preempted. McPain needs to GET REAL, REAL FAST.

I asked this myself. McCain could be trying to get under Obama’s skin right before the next debate.

Simple: to lose. He'll still have his Senate seat, his retirment in a few years, his dachas in AZ, and a permanent invitation to Meet the Press.

Added bonus: Palin gets neutralized, thus keeping another conservative out of national politics.

he kept the Palin VP announcement a surprise. Everyone thought it was either romney or pawlenty until the last minute.

It’s stupid to signal your punch. Obamachev’s campaign throws up a preventive defense. Loose lips.

McCain likes to promote himself up with others around him saying the hard and tough things...then when asked personally McCain responds, “Chris I really think there are more important issues to talk about than Senator Obama’s pastor. I take Senator Obama at his word and if he has condemned the words used then I think we can just move on and talk about what people really want to hear.”

Here’s a clue Johnny....When you come marching home it’s going to be in Arizona and not the White House. People want to see you tough against your political opponents and call a spade a spade...not this nicety crap...negative WORKS....get down and dirty and rip this guy a new one....

Sen. Claire McCaskill, who was “beating the snot out of McCain,” lists on her financial disclosure statement 270 -— THAT’S TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY -— limited partnerships dealing with “affordable housing”.

THAT’S SUB-PRIME LENDING, PEOPLE !!!!!!!!!!

They made a ‘world announcement’ of pulling out of Michigan (not even telling their own VP). This campaign team is giving me the shivers. FOR GOD’S SAKE you’ve got to include your VP in these types of strategy plans/decisions. After all, the VP has a vested ownership in this campaign (how much money has she pulled in because of her efforts?).

I hope its misdirection. The real attack will be in Tuesday’s debate. An attack on Fannie/Fredie/Rainses/Jamie/Barney and the Dems. Who got 200K of campaign money for fredie/fannie? Obama

Some the early leaks to Politico might be coming from disenchanted staff....who knows...hopefully this is strategic.

When McCain's leading strategist telegraphs (states clearly) that the next four weeks will be about Obama's ties to Ayers, I am inclined to think they have more sophisticated course in mind.

The campaign showed shrewdness way back in August.

October is when it counts.

I personally think it is to get Obama to react. Watch where they run to so that they might find more out. Also since the media has worked so hard to cover this stuff up by annoucing it they have to cover it whether they want to or not.

"What could McCain's strategy possibly be?"

50 brand new offices in California last week where Bradley effect first began. CA polls within margin of error. *71 offices total in CA (none in Texas). No one talking about it, not Rove, not Fox, no one. Palin in CA yesterday for 2 events, 20,000 showed up at one. No fundraising going on with her there yesterday, just enormous events. 273 - 55 = 218. He can take CO, VA, NC, IA (unlikely), but cannot win w/o CA. I'm just sayin...ssshhhhhhhh.......

When you come to thinking about how this race will end up don’t forget Dewey vs Truman and how that ended up

This is over and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise

Obama will lose

I’ve been beginning to wonder whether or not McCain really wants to win. Whoever is elected is going to be inheriting a mess. Maybe McCain would rather return to the senate and spend his time pissing off conservatives.

I wonder how long it would take for the media to start ‘liking’ him again?

My guess, and I could be wrong, is that it is misdirection.

Maybe McCain was sticking a limp feeler out to see if the MSM will be nice and think it is okay to put up a fight against Barry.

Wah

I’m assuming that—at least on the Ayers thing—the strategy is to force this into the debate on Tuesday, that is, to force the moderator to ask Obama about it, so that Mccain can comment on Obama’s answer. This has the advantage of getting the issue out in front of however many million people watch the debate.

That’s my assumption. Given the un-deftness of their strategy so far, I could be—& probably am—wrong.
